As much as the whole Corona topic annoys me, there is one thing that deeply worries me. Shows are canceled, venues are shut down, in a nutshell, the music scene is taking a huge hit right now. Besides crowdfunding campaigns, there is no real opportunity to help the venues affected by the virus.

But you can help another group of people that are struggling at the moment. A lot of artists rely heavily on continuous touring to support themselves and their families. Now that a lot of shows around the world are canceled, there is only one way to support them - BUY MUSIC! And I'm not talking about Beatport or Juno. I'm talking about Bandcamp!

@biesmans_ just released an absolute banger of an EP on @watergate.club.official. I really love every single track but my favorite is City Boy. Every element is expertly crafted and well balanced in a beautiful mix. Perfectly layered like a sandwich from your favorite Café. Make sure to check out the rest of the EP as well!

Gear Review - Next up is the Roland Boutique Synth JP-08.

This little fella has definitely some pros and cons. On the upside we have a beautiful cheap little machine that delivers that Jupiter 8 sound quite nicely. In chain mode you can even double the voices from 4 to 8 making it a full fletched polyphonic synth for around 700€.
.
Some downsides are definitely the unbelievably fiddly knobs making it hard to control the parameters accurately. Furthermore, the machine is not really intuitive, making it hard to plug it in and jam around before you immersed yourself in various tutorials on how to get decent sounds out of it.
.
Besides the few downsides, this snyth has a lot to offer for just 350€ (street price, already discontinued like other boutique synths)

Sometimes the swing of your DAW just doesn't cut it. If you're aiming for a more natural sound try adjusting your drums by hand! .
Breaking the mechanic rhythm with drums that are very slightly offbeat can give you the unquantized feel that you can hear in some tracks produced by @justsayfouk or @coeo_official_

Track of the Week

It seems like Detroit Swindle just can't stop making bangers. This cheeky little number was recorded together with Lorenz Rhode a while ago but it still finds its way into my sets. Bumby beats and some plain but oh so lovely piano chords make this track an absolute floor filler ❤️

A few years ago I constantly bought new synths and sample packs hoping to spark my creativity. Nowadays I rarely buy new stuff. Why? Because I discovered that my creativity wasn't really enhanced by the vast amount of VSTs I've accumulated over the time. Limiting myself to a few VSTs and hardware synths on the other hand fosters my creativity. The limits of synths make me think out of the box. How about you? .
