"Treating climate futures as apolitical does not make them so – it simply moves the politics out of view," argues Jessica Jewell, Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year in the Social Sciences and Humanities category.

At the Falling Walls Science Summit, she reads the political traces hidden in energy data to show which transitions are most likely – don't miss her breakthrough talk on 9 November.

If you're interested in the questions underneath – how science earns trust, why evidence rarely shifts political decisions on its own and what society should expect from science – make sure to check out the full programme reserve your seat at the Falling Walls Science Summit. by @falling_walls

This November, meet the people working on some of the biggest questions in fusion, industrial AI, physical AI, hydrogen and deep tech at the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin.

On 9 November, Yu Huang, the 2026 Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year in the Engineering & Technology category, will take the stage to present a new approach to catalyst design and explore a key question: What will it take to make hydrogen fuel cells cost-effective at scale without compromising performance or durability?

The programme also brings together researchers, business leaders and policymakers to discuss how new technologies can move from research into practice, and what it will take to develop them responsibly and at scale.

Falling Walls Engage Hub Malawi is hosted by Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), one of Malawi’s leading institutions for agricultural research and innovation. As part of the Falling Walls Engage network, the Hub connects practitioners in Malawi with a global community to exchange ideas and learn from different approaches that connect science with society.

The Hub focuses on bringing scientific knowledge into conversations around issues that affect communities directly. From initiatives around deforestation and environmental degradation to using newspapers and radio to share research stories, Engage Hub Malawi works with researchers, policymakers, journalists, and the public to explore how science can inform everyday decisions.

For Hub Manager Patricia Ngwale, this work starts with a simple question: who needs to hear the story behind the science? She focuses on finding ways to make research relatable and meaningful, so that scientific knowledge can become part of conversations that matter across Malawi.

Celebrating 10000 pitches.

Since the first Falling Walls Lab in Berlin in 2011, when 10 presenters took the stage, the programme has grown to 92 local Labs in 60 countries in 2026. Over the past 15 years, students and early-career researchers have used these three-minute pitches to present their breakthrough research, innovative ideas and potential solutions to problems that we are facing today.

On 15 September, we welcomed our 10000th presenter ever to pitch at a Falling Walls Lab at the Falling Walls Lab Prague Magdaléna Malásková with her pitch on BREAKING THE WALL OF NEUROLOGICAL POISONING. To mark the occasion, she has received a ticket to the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin this November.

A few highlights of Falling Walls Lab

Some Labs have been with us for over a decade, such as Labs in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Czech Republic, Egypt, Ghana, Japan, Mexico, Mongolia, Oman, Poland, Saudi-Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland and Tunisia.

In the 2026 season, we have received more than 3100 applications and more than 1000 innovators took part in Falling Walls Labs worldwide. The 100 winners of those Labs will advance to the Global Finale at the Falling Walls Science Summit on 6 November. Stay tuned to find out who will take home the title Science Breakthrough of the Year in the Emerging Talents category.
