I was selected, along with 15 other artists, for the chance to customize a helmet for @biltwell annual Parts & Labor Show.

I really wanted to do something different for the 2026 show. Between texturization layers, polyurethane, hand painting, blending, and blasting it over, I probably put 40+ hours into this thing.

What surprised me most was how hard it was to let myself be messy. Doing things loose and imperfect felt like breaking rules I wasn’t supposed to break. When it came time to lay down the final white on top, I almost had a panic attack thinking I might ruin weeks of work at the very last step.

But once it was finished and reassembled, I couldn’t have been happier. Seeing it all come together at the end really clicked for me. I know it’s a little funky, but I think it’s awesome. Plus it feels like petting a rhino when you touch it, which is pretty rad.

They’ll be touring this helmet to a few different shows and then auctioning it off for charity, so keep an eye out.

Huge thanks to the whole Biltwell crew, especially Josh, for trusting me with one of your Gringo helmets and blast shields, I hope everyone digs it as much as I do.

If you start from the position that there is no right or wrong, no good or bad, and creativity is just free play with no rules, it's easier to submerge yourself joyfully in the process of making things. We're not playing to win, we're playing to play. And ultimately, playing is fun. taken in Jacksonville Fairgrounds by @famousletters

It's like you come onto this planet with a crayon box. Now you may get the 8 pack, you may get the 16 pack but it's all in what you do with the crayons, the colors, that you're given. Don't worry about coloring within the lines or coloring outside the lines. I say color outside the lines, you know what I mean? Color all over the fuckin page. Don't box yourself in. by @famousletters
