This chapter is called: Healing and growth with my people. 🤜🏽🤛🏿

My people are those who like and respect me for who I am. Who love me for my strengths and my weaknesses.

Those who take a moment to understand how my introversion is a strength and what that really means without taking it personally or calling it weird that I prefer to send a DM instead of picking up the phone. *Hint: it's all about the energy transfer and drain.

My people are those I see out in the community using their free time and energy to support each other's growth so we all come up. Because a wealthy person surrounded by unwealthy friends is a poor person in this community.

My people also include family and friends who love and support me and my soulmate and our childfree by choice little family of 2+🐾🐾 without judgement. Because our family decisions have nothing to do with others'.

In this chapter I'm in the 7th phase of healing:
1. Shock - my initial discovery of betrayal & deceit
2. Disbelief & denial - numb & disconnected from what was happening to me
3. Obsession - the ability to trust myself, my instincts, and my sense of reality was turned upside down
4. Anger & sadness - grappling with the loss of the life I thought I had and wanted
5. Bargaining - making up/believing excuses for the way I was treated: if I wasn't an introvert...if I had kids...etc.
6. Mourning - the loss of relationships, as I believed them or wanted them to be

And now...

7. Acceptance & recovery - redefining myself and my relationships. Stepping into my new reality with boundaries and adjustments for a healthier future.

Not many people know but the past 10 years and the last year in particular was the toughest year of my life. So much so I'm tearing up just writing this sentence. I'm eternally grateful to my husband for suggesting therapy - a brutal and necessary process that changed everything. (Thank you again Tina.)

This year and for the second half of my life for that matter, I'm not accepting anything or anyone in my life that doesn't honor and respect me for me. And in these new chapters of the rest of my life, I'm focused strictly on growth. Mine & yours (if your vibe is right).

This is the day we spent with Warren Buffett thanks to Melvyn Wolff, who graciously put a group of us on a flight ✈ to Nebraska for an intimate chat at Berkshire Hathaway followed by lunch at Warren's favorite restaurant in Omaha where we're pictured here.

The room was full of grad students, except the 19 of us. We were undergrads in the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship at UH.

Melvyn & his sister, in an attempt to grow their Houston business, Star Furniture, sold their company to Warren Buffett in 1997. Star Furniture became a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, a multinational conglomerate holding company run by Warren Buffett.

And every year, for several years, Melvyn took half of the seniors in the Wolff Center on this trip, making sure that half of the students that went, were women. Even though historically, more men apply to the entrepreneurship program.

I believe there were 40 entrepreneurs in my class, 27 men and 13 women. 9 out of 13 of us went on this trip with him + Dave Cook who was the Director of Mentoring Programs at the time, now Director of WCE.

I remember everyone asking Warren questions about investments and wealth building that day. The typical questions you would expect given the chance to talk to the "Oracle of Omaha".

When it was my turn, I really wanted to know what advice he could give as we set out on our journey to make a social impact in the world with Goodspero.

To this day, every day I wake up & do what I can to support people, projects, and missions that have an impact on others and on our world.

Whether surrounded by wealth builders or community builders, or both, I'm the same person on the same mission.

I've learned to weed out those who are building wealth for themselves while using the community, and to support those who are building WITH communities, opening doors, instead of closing doors w/ a scarcity mentality.

Thank you to those who have shown me who my true tribe is. Your light guides my way and I'm grateful for the lessons and opportunities you provide each day, no matter how small they may seem.

I appreciate you all and look forward to continuing our aligned journies of impact. 🌍

Jess
@Goodspero A group of 19 seniors from the University of Houston's Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship standing with Warren Buffet (center), Melvyn Wolff kneeled in front, and Dave Cook, Director of the Wolff Center (back, left) at Warren's favorite restaurant in Omaha Nebraska. All the students are wearing dark navy blue blazers with the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship crest sewn on the left side of their jackets. Warren Buffett is wearing a grey suit with a white shirt and grey tie. Melvyn Wolff is also wearing the Wolff Center blazer with a blue shirt and yellow tie. The group is a large disco ball. The room is carpeted with a red/brown color and the ceiling lighting from chandeliers is warm, creating a yellow tint in the room. taken in Omaha, Nebraska by @fancycapitalist

"I often think about the different characters I play in everybody’s story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m a villain in some.
A hero in others.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has anything to do with the person I am.

The lens others view you through is colored by their upbringing, beliefs, and individual experiences.

Some people see your bright personality as endearing and others see it as annoying.

Some people think you’re weak and emotional and others feel safe to be themselves around you.

Some people think you’re rude and selfish and others respect the way you stand up for yourself.

Some people admire the way you take pride in the way you look and others think you’re conceited.

And none of it has to do with who you really are.

So I’ve stopped trying to control the way others see me, because I can’t. I have no authority over how other people view me, so I might as well just get on with living my most authentic and joyful life."

AI AGENTS
"Ready... Fire... Aim!"

Developed + taught by me & @nelsonvanegas, for the @wolffcenter seniors.

Nelson is my partner, and the technical one on our team.

We've taught entrepreneurs and teams for over a decade. The structure, the format, the systems, the resources... our IP, adapted for audiences and licensed to partners.

So when Dave asked us to bring it to WCE, we were all in.

After a meeting with Dave I sat front row in Prof. Nordby's class, ChatGPT open, live fact-checking the students' pitches 😏 and taking notes.

Most of the planning was just me + Nelson, behind the scenes, finalizing details all summer. Touching base with Dave as we went.

We met with different AI knowledgeable folks along the way. Compared a lot of notes. Considered different platforms.

And grateful for the UH Bauer College of Business Dean, Xianjun Geng, for his blessing and support! 🤲🏽

Day 1: phones in at the front. That's a WCE house rule, not ours. We roll with it. 🫀

Class 2 - we go deeper...

We build the system where our personal agents check on things for us, flag what needs our attention, and take stuff off our plates.

Virtual homework for those not in our class - it works outside this room too:

Write down the 3 things that keep landing back on your plate, every single week. Things you may not want to be doing.

That's your first agent's job description.
A skill that your agent can refer back to.

It's not about to get good.
It's already good. 🧠🫀

So tell me one of your 3. 👇🏽

Celebrating 40 years of @hahmp ✨ Scholarship Recipients ✨ and Lifetime Achievement Honoree @raulpeimbert 🌹

Loved the video of HAHMP founders and past presidents, the tribute video, and hearing Raul's stories...

How he started by reading short excepts from books and later interviewing Presidents... thank you for sharing your journey with us Raul!

Congrats to this year's scholarship recipients! We sat with one of the recipients at our table who's passion is in sports media. 🙌🏽

Cheers to the whole HAHMP board, and @virimal, gala board chair for another amazing event. 🌹

And love to see the continued support of sponsors investing in the next generation of media professionals.

Special thanks to Jalilah and Andrew, student entrepreneurs in media at UH WCE, for joining us and helping to capture content!

To all those I had a moment to chat with last night, I love you... missed you... proud of you.

All of you.

"You're the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with" - J.Rohn

Good thing I always choose carefully.
I'll share 1 of those people with you today.

Chris Do came to Houston to deliver a keynote and accept an award alongside his truth seeking wife, Jessie Do, and AI prompt genius, Dave Katague - the stars of this reel and the highlight of a tough month after Hurricane Beryl.

I've been sharing how Chris and his community in The Futur has been impacting my life.

If you're a creative business owner, you probably know Chris from YouTube. For almost 10 years, that's the only place I knew where to find him too.

He taught me value-based pricing when I was in my late 20s, still charging by the hour. That video blew up and went on to help thousands of other creatives, and still does.

I cried on a solo car ride home from the grocery store listening to his mini podcast episode about how we see ourselves and deciding to frame things differently.

The first time we had 1:1 coaching time (in front of a live public audience) we talked about overcoming gender discrimination at work and how to get paid what my experience is worth as a Latina in Texas.

Still not sure what Oprah and I are going to talk about but the intention is set.

It took me a decade to realize I can talk to Chris in real life instead of learning through 1-way screens. My brain was programmed to treat YouTube like TV.

I just invested in my 2nd quarter inside the Futur community. We've had some tough conversations and realizations in there.

Making mistakes. Learning how to undo them. Making some more. Rinsing. Repeating. But not making the same ones again.

In person over dinner in H-town, Chris dropped some more hard truths and stories I needed to hear, unlocking more pieces of the old programming in my head.

Break the code.

Buy all the muffins.
Gift them away under the table.

Expand your mind.
Push the boundaries.

Implementing fast is good.
Know when to slow down.
Look for the curves.

Grateful for good company and good people.
Connecting the dots between some of my favorite 5 is both spontaneous and intentional.

As is the world.
And the goodness to come.
