🪼 As a visual exploration employing systems from experimental archaeology, the artists used digital tools to scan and print handicrafts in three-dimensional form. The resulting forms were woven anew with thread, giving rise to uncanny yet equally organic sculptural figures. These hybrid objects inhabit an intermediate space of textures and render symmetries that evoke both molecular compositions and elaborate embroideries from folk tradition. A tapestry embroidered with unruly motifs collected and documented through the research, in unexpected combinations of colors, techniques, and scale, resembles the disordered alphabet of some ancient language that, if we study with great care, we might perhaps begin to hear its sounds. The installation is completed by six forms exploring a utilitarian object resembling a pouch, encountered in various regions of Europe during the 19th century and ultimately documented as a locally reinterpreted object of shadowy use in the region of Naoussa. A sculptural vocabulary of textures, findings or fossils, objects, animals, or flowers, ΖΩΑΝΘÍA | ZOANTHÍA is an imaginary, yet strangely familiar ecosystem inviting us to delight in its riddle.

Η Ρίζα που Πάλλεται/The Palpitating Root concludes its yearly cycle with its fourth chapter and the show ΖΩΑΝΘÍA | ZOANTHÍA (2026), a project that emerged from the collaboration between visual artist Maria Varela and a community of young creators sharing a common interest in threads, craft practices, and collective modes of making. Artifacts, patterns, and symmetries flow through materialities within the flexible body of time, transmitting their genetic information into its historical circulatory system. Shapes and traces of human and non-human entities are mirrored in the gaze of creators from the past, present, and future, passing into their eternal hands and from there, back into matter. A sculptural vocabulary of textures, findings or fossils, objects, animals, or flowers, ΖΩΑΝΘÍA | ZOANTHÍA is an imaginary, yet strangely familiar ecosystem inviting us to delight in its riddle.

💧For the 3rd episode of Η Ρίζα που Πάλλεται/The Palpitating Root the installation A High Point for Another Division of Time (2026) by Phantom Investigations (Ino Varvariti, Giannis Delagrammatikas) inhabits the permanent exhibition space of the Folklore Museum of the Cultural Club of Florina (Megalou Alexandrou&I.Karaviti). During their residency, the duo studied the historic 1928 flood of Sakoulevas river that runs through the city of Florina. Does the river overflow, or does its channeling no longer accommodate its volume? The river’s level fluctuates, shaping the image of the city, carrying information from the surrounding mountains, defining a point in space while also revealing a moment, an exceptionally precise point in time. Things breathe in a collective, almost imperceptible rhythm, and the river records it like a sensitive pulsing stylus.
Η Ρίζα που Πάλλεται/The Palpitating Root is supported by and under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture.

🌱 Tracing the streams of the Sakoulevas River and the broader region of Florina, Phantom Investigations (Ino Varvariti, Giannis Delagrammatikas) reached the Prespa Lakes, two interconnected freshwater tectonic lakes in the Balkans. The Management Unit of Prespa National Park and Protected Areas of Western Macedonia informed the residents about the lakes’ rich biodiversity, rare animal species, and natural landscape. Local guides at the Watermill of Agios Germanos offered a thorough tour of the mill’s functional, historical, and cultural value to the community.

🌱As part of the third episode of its exhibition program titled The Palpitating Root, FANKA Florina Art Residency collaborates with the Folklore Museum of the Florina Cultural Club @laografiko.florinas , where, starting Monday, April 20, 2026, the work A High Point for Another Division of Time (2026) by Phantom Investigations (@ino_v , @giannis_dela ), curated by Christina Petkopoulou, will be presented. The work will inhabit the permanent exhibition space of the museum (Megalou Alexandrou & I. Karaviti) from Monday, April 20 at 19:30 and will be accessible to the public during its opening hours (every Wednesday 18:00–20:00).
The work A High Point for Another Division of Time (2026) is an installation consisting of a sculptural object functioning as a marble inscription of a votive nature, dedicated to the historic flood of the river that runs through the city of Florina. Archival documents, photographs, and research material are arranged in a visual flow parallel to the flow of the museum’s permanent exhibition, parallel to the flow of the river, which passes just a few meters away through the city, through yet another flow within and beyond borders, dividing and reuniting, constantly changing places and names until it ultimately converges with the unified body of water.

🌿 In parallel to her participation in the exhibition program of the first Florina International Film Festival (FIFF)@florinaiff , and during her stay at ΦΑΝΚΑ Florina Art Residency, Catriona Gallagher @catrigallagher conducted site-specific research in the city of Florina. Her wandering through public space, attentive observation of the remnants of the city’s past, and traces of its layered history became interwoven with the core focus of her inquiry: the evolving relationship between the city, its inhabitants, the natural environment and its living forces.
.
.
.
