May 2024:My Study Proposal 600 words I wrote this 2 years ago and it still means so much to me as it did then when I first wrote it. I want to tell you all a story to how Carolyn’s book changed my life @psychologyforfashion I first brought her book in Lockdown 2020, I had every intention of reading it, yet never felt my own inner passion to create. I truly do believe that you are meant to read books at the time when it’s right for you in your life, no matter how long it’s been in your room or book shelf. You read it when you’re mentally & emotionally ready. I carried on managing my cases as a Safeguarding & Well-Being Officer from 2021 for 3 years until I sat down in May 2024 & spent 2 weeks reading Carolyn’s book & summarised the entire book in my notebook called ‘Gems of Insight and Inspiration’. The same notebook I brought in Lockdown 2020 to make my book notes in as seen in the 6th image. I gathered more books from the 3rd image of other theories that I wanted to include in my research. I began reading & writing & completed my study proposal based on my platform idea at the time called ‘Personal Styling & Well-Being’ within 4 weeks. Thank you to all authors who allowed me to gain insightful fashion psychology & well-being knowledge for my writing, I couldn’t have written any of my work if your books did not inspire me & lead me to where I am now. @shakailaelise @therapywithabby @candicekumai @lottejeffs A special thank you to Carolyn, whom I had the honour to meet in February 2025 at the book launch of her 2nd edition of ‘The Psychology of Fashion’. Thank you Carolyn for acknowledging & believing in me, your support provided me with the validation I needed at that time to carry on working creatively on my platform. I remember your words when we spoke in April 2025 , ‘You’ve got the concept, now you need to do it’. & I responded with ‘I need time to think about it all’. I didn’t know what that meant for me until I went on creating 300 of my cases from November 2025 to now. I will be studying Carolyn’s 2nd edition book & all books in this proposal for my script called ‘Memories’ (January 2026) Case: Closer - @goapele Closer to my dreams by @farahmariya_
Design Process August 2023 After I created my vision board for my safe platform @farahmariyajaan ‘Personal Styling & Well-Being’ Ethos; Self-love, Healing & Authenticity’ Wearing one of my favourite pashmina’s from @insidejigsaw . I loved the colour Fuchia Pink all throughout my childhood & young adolescent years and sadly once my conditions became worse, as a trauma response it took away all the natural joy & love for bright colours & palettes that were worn throughout my childhood & teenage memories. This image was at the time of creating my entire design & thought process for my idea & 1 year of working at Jigsaw where I initially thought of the concept in 2022 & seeing garments, patterns & colours in store when I was on my shifts that reminded me instantly of my past memories of what I used to wear before the trauma, body & skin conditions in my life, beautiful colours that my parents once wore in their youth & a memory piece of my grandmother & twin. I never would have imagined that my idea development would be where it is now. My target audience was & is for everyone: • Neurodivergent community • Trauma victims & survivors • Medical conditions • Cancer • Skin conditions • Body conditions This was driven by my own personal experience of a 5 year breast cancer scare from the ages of 20-25 years old in 2013-2018. I was on the NHS surgery waiting list for 2-3 years & got rejected and during this time, I really wanted to book a service where someone can help me with my clothing , as I had no idea how to conceal myself to cope with my rare condition. Sadly, no service has ever existed. This was one of the main reasons as to why I started my idea journey & to also cater to the needs of those who are neurodivergent as from what I saw they were emotionally neglected within the fashion industry. As of July 2025 when my idea had developed & now I have truly found my niche of what my service will be known for: ‘Memories’ My name will now change to ‘Well-Being & Personal Styling’ as individuals well-being & memories need to be addressed first before the personal styling action plan takes place. ‘Farah Mariya’s vision board: July-August 2023 🌹 I loved Keynote as I found it less sensory overload compared to Canva. I wanted to consider the needs of anyone who is neurodivergent or has Dyslexia. I had to think, will the font be readable and will the colours be too overwhelming for those with sensory needs or trauma responses. My research concluded me to use a ‘Sans Sherrif’ font : I had to factor in that I cannot use capital letters as it can be seen as ‘shouting’. My name ‘Farah Mariya’ was originally going to be in non-italic font however I realised I’ve always written my name in an italic style since I was in school & in summer 2024 the process changed to having my name in italic. My colour palette is pastel focused from @farrowandball to feel calm & safe and to always be mindful of nervous system healing & to add in my two favourite colours from my grandparents house: Cream & Gold The logo was inspired by the memory of my grandparents: to combine a rose & their hands together to keep their memory alive. I created it as a symbol in style of @viviennewestwood & with a fine art approach of @acnestudios 🪞 After conducting my research, I found that a rose is symbolic in fashion catwalks & is seen as something luxury within the fashion industry from the book ‘The Rose In Fashion’ by @amydelahayecurator It also is the flower of England: hence why @bicestervillage have a rose as their logo. And as a final & most vital symbol: my grandmothers middle name was ‘Jaan’ which means ‘Love of My Life’ and roses are connected to my ethos of ‘Self-Love & Healing’. Being in the right & safe hands can help heal you & the hands represent everything to do with well-being & safety. In August 2023, I heard Lana Del Ray’s song called ‘Kintsugi’ again from her album ‘Did you know there’s a tunnel under ocean Blvd’ It immediately inspired me to add the element of ‘Kintsugi’ into the hands design. My fashion icon since childhood was @victoriabeckham I spent my childhood posing like her in my photos: smiling to the side with my hand on my hips. My website will be minimal and complimentary to honour VB’s style. Case: Kintsugi - Lana Del Ray✨ @honeymoon by @farahmariya_
Italy : May 2023 The trip & upcoming summer that changed everything for me creatively. Italy in fact goes all the way back to 2011 at 18 years old when I fell in love with Italy for the first time in my life, I decided to call it my 2nd home & that is something that has never changed & never ever will in my life. The last time I was in Italy was in 2012, so to be back in 2023, for a planned trip to see Bruce Springsteen Live for the first time in my life was beautiful. This was one of the trips where I stayed in the present moment & didn’t want to be anywhere else but there and felt this feeling of sadness to come back to my reality in London where I felt uncertain of where I was in life & where I was going. In Italy, the soft lifestyle calms your nervous system, everything there feels different; the smell of air, the sound of water by the sea, the colour of roses, the feeling of being still: there was no sense of urgency but to enjoy the moment for what it was. This is something I am intentionally planning for my platform; to provide that feeling of stillness, calmness & being at home for all victims & survivors of trauma, those who are neurodivergent, have or had cancer, & have any form of body & skin conditions🌹 You deserve to have the choice of wanting to return back to a feeling again from your life where you felt love & by revisiting the past you get to heal & reframe anything you want to in the present moment as it’s with your consent & choice now✨ After returning from this trip, I finally decided to do something about my idea from 2022 & 2 months later in July 2023 I created my vision board for my ‘Personal Styling & Well-Being’ idea which I will be sharing in my next post. With the ethos of ‘Self-Love, Healing & Authenticity’ (my ethos was originally created in lockdown 2020) This is what I will be sharing in the meantime, personal images taken on my iPhone & writing my journey of my idea process until my professional content is ready to share for my Instagram & website: follow @farahmariyajaan if you want to stay connected on what is yet to take place🪞 A case that has been completed: I’ll See You In My Dreams - @springsteen by @farahmariya_
This is one of my favourite cardigans from @insidejigsaw & it’s something I’m seen in quite a lot as one of my signature garments♥️ What I love most about it is all the colours mixed in the cardigan which are my favourite colours: • Red • Pink • Brown Combined altogether in a stripe design it reminds me so much of ‘Born In The USA’ album cover’ by Bruce Springsteen & my father told me he listened to the song ‘Dancing In The Dark’ at the same time the image of him coming out of the bathroom was taken when he was at Birmingham University🪞 (swipe to see) I’ve made sure these colours are in my brand colour palette for my platform @farahmariyajaan 🌹 Wearing dark red @mulberryengland sunglasses from @bicestervillage Memory song: Dancing In The Dark - @springsteen by @farahmariya_
My idea of ‘Personal Styling & Well-Being’ first came to my mind in summer 2022 when I was working in both mental health & fashion retail as 2 jobs & a year later the brand identity & logo design began in summer 2023. My study proposal based on ‘The Psychology of Fashion’ by @psychologyforfashion was written in summer 2024 which changed my life and I highly recommend Carolyn Mair’s book. & I finally found my niche of what I want to be known for of my idea development in summer 2025 all because of my father’s 60th birthday which led me to go back in time to all of our memories together, every photograph I kept or took from my professional Nikon D5000 camera from my Fine Art Photography degree. These past 8 months since November 2025 to now have felt triggering for me as I’ve been creating my very own ‘Memories & Style’ cases based on ‘Memories’ for my safe platform called @farahmariyajaan So far I have created over 300 cases of myself, My parents, my grandparents & my twin & if I have felt by looking at the past & my memories how much I’ve missed out on in life, It’s truly made me realise for those especially who have experienced trauma in their lives How will this make them feel? I will still keep trying And I will be mindful with my whole life of what to consider in the design process especially my choice of words & language so that it does not trigger or relapse anyone, my biggest worry is children. This is my dream, this is the only dream & nothing else. I am devoting my life story, my time & my creativity in bringing this platform safely to life with no use of AI. Everything is intentional & deliberately orchestrated. We can support each other , let’s talk about it, let’s connect & raise more awareness It’s the only way forward for self-love & healing🌹 •Name of my platform has now been changed to ‘Well-Being & Personal Styling’ with ‘Memories & Style Cases’ & a new tag line of ‘Addressing Our Memories’✨ by @farahmariya_
Memory: @artistsforgaza1 event July 2025 with my uba♥️ Was beautiful to support & to witness an environment & atmosphere where everyone felt the same emotion & chose to consciously be present there. Also, I was so pleased to be able to see Paul @simononart in person, I grew up listening to @the_clash in my fathers Golf VR6, my uba (dad) would play ‘Bankrobber’ after school and it always stayed with me as a memory🪞 It’s inspired me to now in 2026 create my own ‘Memories & Style’ case called ‘Bankrobber’ & it’s of my uba wearing a grey suit with his silver flip phone & silver sunglasses. (Swipe to see photos) This will be in honour of both The Clash & Paul Simonon & when it’s photographed in my small studio it will be shown on my safe platform : @farahmariyajaan 🌹 by @farahmariya_
There was a time in my life where I couldn’t take pictures without a filter or I overcompensated with heavy makeup up to avoid all my trauma with my body & skin conditions. Now after self-love & healing, it makes me feel uncomfortable & unrecognisable not seeing my own skin as it is. Now I can’t do anything if it doesn’t feel or look authentic to who I am. The last photo in 2021 is when I stopped using filters & heavy makeup up to hide, I’m smiling in the photo but I wasn’t happy with my environment & how I perceived myself. I finally felt like I can’t be this version anymore that took stages of healing to get through it all. I found that this doesn’t look like ‘Farah Mariya’ & that I want to see ‘me’ , I want to see my face & skin naturally. Wearing @accessorize waterproof gold plated hoops🌟 ‘Someone like you was so beautifully designed. First image from Lockdown June 2020 When I had Self-Love for the 1st ever time in my entire life. Jessie J’s song ‘Queen Acoustic’ made me accept both of my body & skin conditions. & Jessie J’s own personal journey of breast cancer & managing ADHD breaks my heart. 🌹Video from @djagonline Kings Cross: @jessiej April 2025 Being born 2 months premature as a twin impacted my health, as we were called ‘miracle twins’ who were not going to make it. I spent my entire life always thinking that there was something wrong with me & why I couldn’t use products & wear clothing that others were using or look like girls around me. I spent thousands of my own money experimenting by buying products & clothes only to have allergic reactions. Before my teenage years even began I wasn’t able to use most skin care, make up, body washes, candles, room diffusers, perfume, pillowcases, clothing & scarves. I was in a constant state of confusion & anxiety until 6 years ago when I was 27 years old in January 2020 when I got my diagnosis of my skin condition called ‘Urticaria’ that I’ve probably had since I was born. I was also suffering silently through an undiagnosed rare body condition & breast cancer scare which started in summer 2013 at age 20 & I had my private surgery at @harleystreetclinic by taking a loan out in July 2018 at age 25, had a second small surgery in December 2019 & given the clear in March 2020. And sadly by having the surgery to remove the abnormal lump in my breast, it triggered my existing skin condition to develop food allergies in February 2019 due to all of the trauma. Let’s be more understanding towards each other & please let’s stop saying:💐 ‘You don’t look like you have a skin or body condition’ The story here is to not judge someone by their appearance🪞 *YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR PIP ALLOWANCE* My new platform @farahmariyajaan ✨ It’s catered to everyone who has a skin & body condition. This is for you. To have self-love & to have a safe space to heal through fashion & music. Queen Acoustic - @jessiej by @farahmariya_
‘Memories’ 🌹 It’s time to be completely transparent & vulnerable, with only safety, understanding & no judgement. (Previous Safeguarding & Well-Being Officer - I am now trying to live a slow & soft life & reclaim my time back & commit to my platform) A conversation in a safe space can change or save someone’s life and we should never judge anyone by their appearance, we never know what they are going through with their well-being. People’s stories are heartbreaking & I want to give back the choice to victims & survivors because it was taken away from us and we had to loose our identity to survive. We’ve already lost so much & missed out, now it’s time to give something back, to return to our memories with fashion & music. This is my only intention & dream for all children & adults. ✨🪞 Farah Mariya • Well-Being & Personal Styling (Name has now been changed) Ethos: Self-Love, Healing & Authenticity New Tag Line: ‘Addressing Our Memories’ @farahmariyajaan by @farahmariya_
