The Cage — @farajabatumike

Yesterday at the @cwb_kinshasa in Kinshasa, Faraja Batumike presented The Cage, a powerful contemporary dance performance where every movement speaks beyond words. In a nearly empty space, the body tells a story of confinement, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of freedom.

Through my lens, I sought to capture the tension between darkness and light, stillness and movement, vulnerability and strength. These photographs are not just moments frozen in time—they are fragments of an emotional journey, where the body becomes the voice of what words cannot express.

Big up @milan_emmanuel @nicolasyanece @vijana_up

Today, @detours_festival organized a dance workshop in Kinshasa in collaboration with, @vijana_up creating a space for learning, dialogue, and artistic exchange with local youth.

Led by @milan_emmanuel (Detour DRC) and @farajabatumike (Vijana Up), the workshop explored the transformative power of dance and its role beyond performance. Through personal experiences, practical sessions, and open discussions, they shared insights on creativity, leadership, cultural exchange, and community engagement.

While Faraja highlighted the mission of Vijana Up in empowering young people through dance and Hip-Hop culture, Milan shared the vision of Detour DRC and the importance of building bridges between artists, communities, and opportunities through movement and cultural collaboration.

More than a workshop, this gathering demonstrated how art can become a powerful tool for communication, education, and social impact, inspiring the next generation to use their talents to shape a better future.

A special thank you to the @bosangani.festival for their warm welcome and for creating a space where art, culture, and youth can connect and grow together.”
