The Portrait: The unseen person right next to you: Why I started looking closer Why is this portrait my profile picture? After so many emotional conversations and questions at my exhibition last week, I want to share the story behind it. The man on the right in the second photo is Ignazio. On the left is my dad. Ever since I was eight years old, summer vacation meant visiting my dad in Nuremberg, and Ignazio was always a part of it. The two of them were incredibly close. But life doesn’t always go according to plan: alcohol slowly drove Ignazio off track. In 2017 came the devastating loss of my dad (02/28/1965 - 08/12/2017) - a blow that shook us all. Years later, in early 2020, Ignazio’s and my paths crossed again in Nuremberg. I ran into him on the street and took him in for a few days, over and over again. My brother also tried to take him in and offer support. But the streets had a magnetic, destructive pull of their own-they kept calling him back. This encounter in 2020 wasn’t just the trigger for another portrait—it was the spark that launched my artistic series and theme „THE HUMAN.“ Ignazio showed me that people on the margins of our society aren’t nameless shadows, but human beings with a story. They are fathers, friends, companions. And sometimes they are standing much closer to us than we realize. This experience stays with me in every single image to this day. It’s the reason why I look where others look away. Thank you for walking this path with me and carrying my work with so much heart.♥️ taken in Nürnberg by @farhan_gino_
