He built her the small white house with a window over the kitchen sink. She could see the rows of corn that stretched out to the horizon and the children catching lightning bugs as the day turned to dusk. Right away she had sewn blue flowered curtains from feed sacks she had saved. They raised up four children in that house, with a fifth in the little cemetery up on the hill. She kept wildflowers growing next to the tiny stone marker in summertime. In winter the carved name and date — buried in snow. The old graves had an iron fence surrounding them, the gate swaying open, creaking in the prairie wind.
The house was mostly empty now. The cellar had dusty Mason jars on the shelves, full of green beans and tomatoes. The window panes were broken and clouded with cobwebs. Bowls, spoons and a faded box of Corn Flakes sat on the breakfast table. The front door was choked with vines, the white paint cracked and peeling.
I could almost see momma washing up the dishes with the wind blowing through the kitchen window, ruffling the blue flowered curtains.

I hate to see the warm ☀️days of Summer falling away and the chill creeping in. But seasons change and Fall has its own charm 🍂🎃
Been letting my heart and mind do some healing. Cleaning, baking 🥧 keeping the dog and plants alive 🐶🪴 Wearing his old sweaters, checking the score of his favorite team 🏈 camping in his van. Whispering what the kids are doing: jobs📈 trips🧳 awards🎖️ projects🪜 work🛳️ mishaps🩼 and our three granddaughters—awesome milestones
🎓 💍 🚑 🦮 4️⃣ 🧗🏻‍♀️
I painted the front door and tried some fix it jobs—turns out I am not good with tools🔧🤪
Thinking about all those years ago when we were falling in love and our hopes were in front of us🔮 You and I have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead 🎶

I sure miss you John, more than words can say, today on your birthday 🎂 and every day 💌

Another fun camping 🏕️ trip. We were missing John a lot, but think he would be glad we were using his camper van 🚐. Kelly and I wore flannel shirts that had belonged to her dad and my dad. Ben built amazing bonfires 🔥 and cooked some great food 🥩🍳🥓 for dinner and breakfast. And S’mores 🍫 of course.
Ben and Lucy swam in the lake and Skye 🐶 tried to keep all her campers together and only escaped out of her harness twice. by @farmanager

The Limelight Hydrangea is blooming after its move from Kelly & Ben’s yard in December. It is more white this year ~ swipe to see the photo I took last August, it was more green. I love that second photo so much, I use it as phone wallpaper.

Quilt time ⏰ ~ “Brownies and Pink Lemonade” is the name of this simple quilt using a 4 inch square of pink or brown fabric paired with a solid cream rectangle. A wedding gift for Charlotte and Josh! 🇺🇸🇿🇦

I didn’t have enough of the guitars so I added some “treasure” using scraps from the front.
Size: 38” x 50” is not large but just right for throwing over the couch, or for Sadie 🐈 to curl up on. I hand quilted, doing a 2 inch grid all over. The brown binding on the edge is Kona “biscuit”

With love from Grammy wishing them a lifetime of happiness 🩷🤍🤎 and what an honor to share June 30th as a wedding day.

I miss that guy—I miss that smile. It was the last day to be a June bride and in 1979 it was the perfect day to say I Do.
Two summers before, the universe threw us together. Maybe coincidence or better yet, our destiny.
I fell in love with the cute lawyer who drove a ‘70 yellow Volkswagen camper.
He fell in love with the government typist who bought a ‘70 blue Volkswagen Beetle.
And so our story began . . .
I wouldn’t have missed it for the world
I still have all the memories.

✨I had a white “garden” hat to wear, stored in a cardboard box and i looked for it when it was time to go to the church; my dad had set it out for trash not knowing what was inside! Hat was rescued. 👒
✨My younger brother David @davidventuringsole was 16 at the time and he filled all the nooks and crannies of the VW camper with rice. Rice was falling out of cupboards, the visors, so many places, for days, on our honeymoon 🤪 by @farmanager

The greatest gift a father can give his children is to believe in them. He believed they could do anything they set their minds to. He helped me raise two remarkable kids who now have great memories of their dad, and made us proud to be their parents. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, granddads, stepdads, military dads, foster dads, and to the moms who have to be both. P.S. we loved this song when it came out in 1977 🎶 🎷 by @farmanager

The Rhododendrons have been so pretty this year. This one grows on the neighbors side but towers over the fence. Fun fact - the Pacific Rhododendron was selected by women to represent Washington at the Chicago Worlds Fair in 1892 and is Washington’s state flower. 🎡🌸
