Foodie treasure from my travels! Todayโ€™s lunch was a baguette from the delightful @castlekitchen in Montgomery (I believe itโ€™s made @thedragonwales ) with free range chicken liver pate from the foodie emporium that is @ludlowfarmshop. The Christmas shop is open ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ! Pickled red cabbage was just ๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–perfect with it! A gift from fellow foodie @tyler.julia. And the soup was home made cream of tomato made with @drewsofworcester cooking tomatoes . Nothing made in a factory. Utter joy! More travel treasures to share soon โ€ฆ wait til you see the charcuterie! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ by @farmerscook

Two bags of perpetual spinach ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š + pasta, blue cheese, olive oil and a few toasted pine nuts = 1 delicious, easy, quick Saturday night supper. Also remembered some chilli ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐ŸŒถ๏ธgremolata to add crunch and some oooh lala heat. Carbs + carbs = a good nights sleep! Spinach is in abundance right now ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’šand widely available from growers, farm shops and farmers markets. Recipe based on Nigelโ€™s blue cheese and pasta in Appetite (genius book!) also available on internet. by @farmerscook

English peppers. Whoโ€™d have thought it? Thatโ€™s Shakshuka for breakfast then! Free range eggs from @the_egghut (jumbo size, double yolks everytime). Peppers from @drewsofworcester. And this gorgeous bowl is from potter Peter Mumford in Portscatho (no Instagram but you can find him at the back of The Boathouse or via the hugely talented local artist @georgie_rogers_art). by @farmerscook

๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟThis yearโ€™s basil plants just kept on giving! After a summer season working in salads and pastas, this week I blitzed the remaining leaves with pine nuts, garlic and olive oil from @rusticpuglia to make four whopping jars of pesto for the freezer. Love calling on this in the depths of winter! Used a Marcella Hazan recipe (recommended by @earthsongkitchen) and available online. To achieve the right texture, Marcella advises adding the cheese by hand. She recommends Parmesan and pecorino but Iโ€™m partial to using English cheddar, or another hard salty cheese, to make English pesto! Itโ€™s already come in handy to green up my early Autumn minestrone. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹ by @farmerscook

Rodley Blackjacks. Majorie Seedlings. Winterbourne Magnums. And good old Victorias! So many British plums (not even AI can be specific on the number of varieties) and available in vast quantities from any farm shop, farmers market, farmers direct or kind neighbours with fruit trees! I used the Blackjacks to make an intensely dark and delicious version of Nigelโ€™s Plum Crisp (recipe from Kitchen Diaries and online). Breadcrumbs in butter replace the traditional crumble mix, so easy! The Victorias made a lovely jam, quick and easy to make because the stones are full of pectin, taste tested with a dollop of feta (love love love sweet and salty!) on toasted St Martins Sourdough from @hobbshousebakery (my favourite bread). Then I poached a few for the freezer ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡ (good with midwinter breakfast porridge). @farmerscook Birmingham and West Midlands rocked up with a superb plum cake, moist and plummy and nutty, also a Nigel from Kitchen Diaries and online. How lucky are we to have all this on our doorsteps! ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง by @farmerscook

Soulful v soulless. The delicious leaves from a locally grown salad bag are a world away (sometimes literally!) from those chlorine pumped supermarket plastic pillows. Grown with skilled care and โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ, super fresh ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ, pesticide free, nutritious and varied, locally grown leaves are widely available from farmers markets everywhere. Some growers even produce leaves all year round (oooh I love those bitter winter greens!). My favourite salad bag is from @lanecottageproduce, sold through greengrocers and delis where I live (mine came from @leggesofbromyard). They were the basis for a salad of cannellini beans, olives, spring onions and avocado served with Nigelโ€™s grilled mustard chicken (free range also from @leggesofbromyard). The olive oil @rusticpuglia marinade with red wine vinegar and whole grain mustard doubled up as the salad dressing. Happy dining! by @farmerscook

This is where I start! Whatโ€™s in abundance right now at farmers shops and marketsl. This time it was organic perpetual spinach from the @thefoldbransford. And where we finish is steak and greens. Steak from the brilliant @knightwickbutchers, marinaded in olive oil from @rusticpuglia lemon and rosemary, pan fried and then finished with a โ€˜gravyโ€™ of the meat juices topped up with remaining marinade, splash of red wine and tarragon wine vinegar, knob of butter. Most of the food on my plate came from a 5 miles radius! by @farmerscook

๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’Blink and youโ€™ll miss it. The British cherry season! Right now farm shops and farmers markets are bursting with punnets of these local beauties (or might get lucky and find them growing in the wild!). Multiple pleasures to be had include with a lemony goats cheese from Cricket St Thomas and, oooooh, some dark chocolate (a leftover @tonyschocolonely_uk_ire was spot on!). ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’Bowl from @wychwoodpottery by @farmerscook

A spanking fresh piece of Scottish hake from The Fish House in Ludlow (one of only 1090 independent fishmongers in UK). This ticked all my boxes! British, sustainable, wrapped in paper not plastic etc. Lightly poached, I made a Spanish style salad with warm sliced Cornish new potatoes dressed with @rusticpuglia olive oil, lemon, capers, red onion, parsley and oven dried tomatoes. Once layered in the dish, I tossed it gently and served up with extra lemon and organic friseฬe from the salad bag @thefoldbransford. Sometimes I add slices of fresh red chilli or put chilli jam on the table. by @farmerscook

๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“A savoury strawberry dish. Here you have layers of thinly sliced fennel from @rootsfamilyfarmshop with thinly sliced strawberries from Oaklands Fruit Farm topped with watercress @chalkevalleywatercress, crumbled Colston Bassett Stilton from @leggesofbromyard, finely sliced spring onion and drizzled with @rusticpuglia olive oil and seriously good balsamic vinegar. Forgot to put on some sliced green olives for an extra umami layer! Very nice accompaniment to some simple tortellini for supper on a warm evening! Strawberries are in abundance right now and the best ones (often special varieties) are from growers, farm shops and farmers markets. ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“ by @farmerscook

Tbh, I thought it was a mirage! A vineyard in Nottinghamshire with a supercool lively cafe selling fabulous local food and drink, homemade coffee and cakes with a fabulous lunch menu. Thankfully the @woldswineestate was very much a delicious reality! For lunch, a generous chicken Caesar eaten with proper cutlery and a refreshing @cawstonpress rhubarb presse. Doesnโ€™t get more English than that! Also bought the Red Fizz, perfect hot weather easy drinking, and a local lager selection from @braybrookebeer to enjoy at home. Great service too. Highly recommended. Now onto my mission to find more of these British gems! by @farmerscook

Today I bring you the most useful side salad ever in the history of salads! It goes with everything. Chopped tomatoes, cucumber, red onion lots of mint, parsley and coriander with an olive oil, lemon, red wine vinegar and garlic, dressing. Ingredients from @drewsofworcester @thefoldbransford @rusticpuglia and my garden. No modern slavery in my food supply chain, which is more than can be said for imported salad and other vegetables. Also see my beautiful new bowl from Alison Townley of @wychwoodpottery (available online). One can never have enough ceramic bowls! Salad served today with delicious tinned sardines from @tinnedrockfish. More on this innovative and contemporary fishmonger to come! by @farmerscook
