The Matterhorn’s presence is everywhere in Zermatt, it visually dominates the valley and is the driving force for the town of Zermatt.

I popped into the oddly named Parish Church of St Mauritius, there was an orchestra rehearsing for a performance. Outside the church are the many hundreds of graves of mountaineers, who continue to perish on the mountain.

Continuing on I joined a path heading up towards the Matterhorn. There are many options, you can do the full hike to the base or get a chairlift and then proceed from there. I chose neither and just went as far as I wanted to, the rapidly warming day plus a bit of altitude being my determining factors.

There are lots of little ski huts, old and new plus a really good cafe, seemingly stuck out in the middle of nowhere. I guess that in the ski season the place really comes alive.

A quick tour of Sisi Palace - the heat didn’t encourage lingering. Sisi was the nickname of Elizabeth, who at the tender age of 16 became an Empress. Despite the vast wealth and power of title the pressures of court made for an unhappy Sisi and family life was beset by inheritance issues eventually breaking down into WW1. taken in Sisi Museum • Hofburg Wien by @farquhar.roger

Prague has been like a fairyland, an immense medieval/gothic theme park. Much bigger than I had originally thought it delights at every turn. Well worth a return visit, if you are in the area :-) by @farquhar.roger

Our intention was to walk around the corner and find a cool spot in a shady garden. Turns out that this is the oldest medieval structure remaining in Prague - the convent of St Agnes. by @farquhar.roger
