four years, five photos —

2020. When this was taken, we hardly knew each other. On a whim, having only met in person so few times you could count it on your hand, we jumped in your car and scaled the East Coast. I’m quite certain I fell in love with you the night this photo was taken. How could I not?

2021. The following year, we went back, and we recreated the magic that we discovered together the first time. We’ve always had a penchant for the outdoors. There’s nobody I’d rather breathe the fresh air and listen to the waves crash against the shore with.

2022. We took a big leap and travelled to India together. This photo was captured in front of humanity’s most iconic structures, but I’d be lying if I said my eyes were anything but glued to you. It’s hard to out shine the Taj Mahal, but you make it look easy.

2023. It took us three years but we finally made it to Paris together. You showed me around your old haunts, we ate the best hot dogs I’ve ever tasted, and once more I witnessed you slip into a labyrinthine city with the ease as if you had been born there, not in West Virginia.

2024. This year isn’t over yet, and we have much ahead of us. However, it is the year that I plunged into a newfound love of basketball under your tutelage. Watching you rekindle your love of the sport has been deeply inspiring, and it is a great reminder that you can know someone for years and yet still have the honor to watch them fully embrace a passion once again.

Five photos doesn’t even do our time together any remote sense of justice. We have lived many lives already, and I’m so excited to live many more. I love you, happy fourth anniversary 💗 by @farrelld.623

Ellie, In your twenty-fifth year, you accomplished so many milestones:

🐶 adopted our lovely puppy girl Hali
🎓 successfully finished two masters degrees
✈️ conquered Copenhagen and said farewell to Geneva
🗳️ played a pivotal role in electing our next State Senator
💻 laid the groundwork to start your own business
💍 married some total schmuck 😉

You continue to amaze me, your family, your friends, and everyone who is privileged to know you. Happy twenty-sixth birthday, Ellie. I can’t wait to see what you do with the next 365 days.
