Well, I’m standing on a freeway exit in Winslow, Arizona and such a fine sight to see. It’s a burn, my Lord, stopping me to stop and turn.

Sinners & Saints

Took a wrong turn in the middle of small town Texas back in May and came across a couple of scenes we wanted to snap, but as I was walking back to the truck I noticed this barn and walked closer. I saw the cross from the outside and inched closer to the door, it was open. Inside looked like a residence that had been converted into a church (or the other way around), it was dark and seedy with used needles on the floor. My daughter and I took a couple of snaps and got out - the glowing cross was the highlight and our timing of the day for it perfect. She and I are headed back to Texas tomorrow to start her sophomore year, photo road trip in the heat (smidge different than May) should be fun.

Little different vibe this year at the OC Fair for me as it’s the first time in 12+ years that I haven’t submitted photos for the Visual Arts Contest, having won Best of Show in 2024. I also had an opportunity to talk with last year’s Best of Show winner - great to compare notes and share our winning photos with each other.

Overall a solid day meeting-up with the Beers and Cameras for the monthly photo meet-up, where everyone geeked out on cameras and snapped around the fair.

Somewhere on Highway 70 in North Texas after a deluge of rain. The post-storm evening light, clouds and freshly wet asphalt was one of those moments you have to pull over for, even if you’re racing the clock to catch sunset.

Had to visit the iconic Blue Swallow Motel along Route 66. A very popular stop at sunset, many without situational awareness and photo etiquette. Patience was the name of the game.
