A last look at Halloween inside The Duchess.

Built in 1923, this historic house in the Corridor of Old Town Orange is run by co-owners and best friends Nicole and Kate, and each season it is dressed anew.

Nicole leads the styling, and her point of view shows in every room: a love of the holidays, a collector’s eye, and a gift selection curated with real restraint.

This fall, we found our stems and ribbon woven through her Halloween displays.

Halloween lingers upstairs. Through the rest of the house, Christmas has already arrived. taken in The Duchess by NM Designs by @farrisilk

Every element in this collection started as a line on the mood board.

The lace became Laurel Leaf, the embroidery became Freya Flower, the shells became Mother of Pearl.

Three ribbons, paired for the Traditionalist.

We’ve got our eyes on spooky season 👁️

Second only to Christmas, Halloween is one of our family’s favorite holidays to go all out for.

There’s still time to preorder our spooky sashes, bows and ribbon for Halloween 2027.

Thirteen weekends until Christmas!

Adding an unexpected shade is the difference between holiday decor that is nice, versus one that people remember.

Eggplant makes ruby and green opulent.
Chocolate makes pink and ivory decadent.
Steel blue makes antique gold and white modern.
Dark olive grounds red and gold.

The final piece to thoughtful ribbon design is texture. Mixing and matching different ribbon compositions makes your design feel intentional and thought out, not flat.

Textures add a physical element to your design, infusing your choices with a sense of touch.

Our secret is to pair at least two contrasting types of fabric together. Crisp dupion with shiny metallic. Finely detailed embroidery with plush velvet. Silky satin with opulent woven fabric.

Don’t be afraid to combine two completely opposite textures. Just make sure there is always something that ties them together, like color, pattern, or motif. by @farrisilk

Thoughtful ribbon design relies on creating tension. Pairing a wide, plush Velvet ribbon with narrow sparkling jewels creates a dynamic balance, making your ribbon work feel organic, not stale.

The largest width holds the shape and makes room for everything that comes after. The middle width fills the in the space between. The narrowest goes on last and catch the light and stir a little every time someone walks past the design.

Our go-to is at least 3 widths of ribbon. Layering the three gives your design the visual allure that draws in the eye.

The contrast of sizes creates a bit of character, taking any design from flat to fantastic. by @farrisilk

Every world tells a different story of Christmas.

Not the palace. The gallery. Every piece hung to be studied… not just seen.

Color comes first. Always!

Before ribbon, before trimmings, before anything gets made, we create a palette.

Cocoa Blush started as a contrast study. Sequoia Grandeur, an exercise in layering. Every collection is a point of view you can read in the palette alone.
