I’ve been painting miniatures for about two years now, and one thing I’ve learned is that taking proper care of your brushes is one of the most important habits you can build. If you don’t, you’ll slowly end up with a pile of brushes that all turn into dry brushes.
Here are the three things that made the biggest difference for me:

1. Only load your brush up to about two-thirds of the bristles. If paint gets into the ferrule and dries there, it’s very hard to remove and it will slowly ruin the brush.

2. Never push the brush into the miniature. That bends and damages the bristles. Instead, always pull the brush across the surface so the tip stays sharp and controlled.

3. Clean your brushes with soap after every painting session. Wiggle the brush in the soap, move it back and forth on your hand, use your thumb to remove leftover paint, then rinse it with water.

If you do this consistently, your brushes should end every session with a clean, sharp tip instead of slowly turning into dry brushes.

One of the biggest mistakes I made as a beginner painter was thinking there was only one way to paint.
The moment I started exploring light, shadow, contrast, and color, miniature painting became a lot more creative for me.
That's still one of my favorite things about this hobby. 🎨🔥

Some people in the hobby have never heard of wet blending and layering, while others use them all the time. Wet blending is a fast way to create smooth transitions by mixing colors directly on the model while they’re still wet. It’s quick and intuitive.

Layering is more controlled. You build up thin layers, let them dry, and bring them together with a soft glaze, often a 50/50 mix of the colors. It sounds technical, but it really isn’t. Sometimes you just need a bit of clarity and start painting.

Two years ago, I never imagined Fatalquest would become this.

What started as an e-commerce idea slowly turned into something I actually cared about creating: miniature painting content.

It took me a long time to take myself and that dream seriously. I worried about what people would think, overthought everything, and had plenty of moments where I wondered what the hell I was doing.

But I kept going.

And eventually, FatalQuest reached 1,000 YouTube subscribers. 🎨❤️

This is the miniature I painted for one of them, and honestly, it feels like a little symbol of the journey so far.

I'm incredibly grateful I decided to go for it.
If something really matters to you, sometimes you just have to listen to yourself and go for it.

So I had the opportunity to play Warhammer with my friend @daan_schutte______ ! 🎲
He did a great job explaining everything, and while there was definitely a learning curve, I actually had a lot of fun.
There was a pretty big skill gap between us, but Dan intentionally let me make mistakes during the first game. Afterwards, we went through what I did wrong, which helped me understand his army and the game a lot better.
And somehow… I actually managed to win the second game! 😂
Definitely something I’d love to do more often! ⚔️

I finally finished this tiger! 🐅
It’s been a while since I painted a mini purely for myself, so it felt really good to get this one finished. I absolutely love how it turned out, especially the warm tiger tones, blue blades, and the blue & pink accents on the base.
I also experimented with UV resin for the first time, and I’m really happy with how the base turned out.
Honestly, this might be one of my favorite minis I’ve painted so far. ❤️🎨

In this video, we’re unboxing a miniature from @friendlygiantgaming Just to clarify, this wasn’t sent to me as part of a collaboration, I actually bought this one myself. I was already ordering some paints and an airbrush from the website when I came across these @cobramode miniatures. I really liked the look of them, so I added one to my basket. I finally finished my first commissioned paint job! 🎨

It was a lot of fun and definitely taught me a lot. Not everything went smoothly, but I was really happy with how I managed to solve the problems along the way and still create a miniature I’m proud of.

Painting for someone else is definitely different from painting for yourself, you notice and double-check so many more little details.
I’m really grateful I got the opportunity to do this! ❤️

Feathering is one of those techniques that looks much harder than it actually is. 🎨

Once you understand the brush movement and practice it a few times, it becomes an incredibly useful tool for creating smooth transitions and subtle textures.

Every great painter started somewhere. Keep experimenting, keep learning, and most importantly... enjoy the process. 💜

Before you throw away your old brushes... give them a second life.

I still use mine for PVA glue, texture paste, mud effects, mixing Citadel paints, and even drybrushing.

Not every brush has to stay a detail brush forever. Sometimes it just gets a new job. 🎨

My troll from 2025😁 Posting this one retroactively because it never made it onto my channel.
Looking back, I'd clean up the support marks and give the base a black rim instead of green.
But I'm still proud of the color scheme. Every miniature teaches me something new, and that's what makes this hobby so rewarding.
