NEW CLASS! 🔥 RECLAIM THE FLAME The European witch hunts were not simply a case of superstition run amok. They unfolded during a period of profound social, political, and economic upheaval, when fear became a convenient tool for maintaining power. The witch became a scapegoat for society’s misfortunes, and the consequences were devastating. While the pyres of Europe have long since gone cold, the forces that seek to control our bodies, suppress our autonomy, and keep us in a perpetual state of fear are hardly ancient history. So what does witch burning have to do with burnout? Quite a lot, as it turns out. Introducing RECLAIM THE FLAME, a recorded class with Fat and the Moon founder and herbalist Rachel Budde. Through the lenses of history, physiology, and botanical medicine, Rachel explores the threads connecting historical witch persecution to modern burnout. From the workings of the nervous system to the botanical allies that have accompanied humans through centuries of upheaval, this class examines how external pressures become internalized in our bodies, and how we might reclaim our vitality, resilience, and agency. Your purchase includes unlimited access to the recording, along with a downloadable Class Companion & Field Notes featuring botanical references, reflection prompts, and space to gather your thoughts. The fire is ours to reclaim. Available now at the link in profile 🔥 by @fatandthemoon

OH, HECATE, Goddess of witchcraft, guardian of the crossroads. Hecate shows us how to navigate the shadows, reminding us that there’s plenty of power to be found in the dark. And what better time to channel the goddess of the night than when the veil between worlds is thinning? Our Hecate Lip Paint is inspired by this dark divinity. A juicy, wine-colored pigment that can go from a subtle berry stain to full midnight potency. Dab it on your cheeks, swipe it across your lips, and get as dramatic as you wanna be. 📸: @hayflux with beauties @jentry_noel and @salmavir by @fatandthemoon
Humans have been painting their faces for thousands of years. With crushed minerals, plant pigments, charcoal, and clay, we’ve used color to mark rites of passage, embody deities, signal belonging, and transform ourselves into another version of ourselves. With Halloween upon us, we propose a return to the more experimental pleasures of painting one’s face. An opportunity to exaggerate, embellish, disguise, and generally make a spectacle of yourself. Our Lip Paints, Eye Coals, and Highlighters are made with richly colored mineral pigments and an appreciation for the expressive possibilities of the human face. They can be used with a delicate hand or applied with theatrical enthusiasm. 📸: magic of @hayflux with @salmanlee by @fatandthemoon
IN PRAISE OF MAIZE 🌽 Looong before corn became a commodity of industrial agriculture, maize was cultivated and revered by Indigenous peoples throughout Mesoamerica. For thousands of years, this sacred plant has nourished civilizations, shaped cultures, and sustained communities. Today, corn is one of the most heavily industrialized crops on Earth. A plant with an extraordinary history of nourishment has been reduced, in large part, to a commodity. We are interested in remembering a different orientation to the plants (who we are completely and utterly dependent on). For us, recognizing the myriad ways to work with a plant is one way we honor that relationship. We consider our potions odes to the plants that make them. Our Masa & Olive Face Paste works with the gently exfoliating effects and soothing starches of finely ground masa to gently polish away dead skin cells. Lavender continues the cooling out of inflamed skin while the skin softening powers of olive oil helps retain moisture. A harvest-season homage to an ancient botanical ally. 📸: original phot by the magical @hayflux with @ghoullscout sts by @fatandthemoon
What we love about Halloween is the unabashed opportunity to mask. It’s a gorgeous paradox that masking actually helps us reveal another layer of who we are. Kinda like our line up of herbal facial masks. Skin is in a constant state of shedding, regenerating, and revealing itself. Our masks work with the skin’s natural rhythms, using tried and true botanicals and minerals with the intention to reveal, not conceal. 📸: the brilliance of @hayflux with @stinkycheese_ @megstovall_ and @amasmovement by @fatandthemoon

Every ingredient in a Fat and the Moon formula has a job, and performance is only part of the equation. We consider where ingredients come from, how they’re produced, how they interact with our bodies, and what happens when they return to the earth. Our Be Banished List outlines the ingredients we’ve chosen to leave out of our formulas. It’s a record of our standards, informed by research, experience, and a commitment to keep learning. This week, we put those standards into practice with the launch of our Behentrimonium Methosulfate (BTMS)-free Day-to-Day Conditioner. Our standards are meant to evolve. by @fatandthemoon
What goes down the drain doesn’t ‘go away’. Behentrimonium Methosulfate (BTMS) has been a staple in natural hair care for years, and for good reason. It’s an effective conditioning agent that isn’t as bad as some of the other conditioning ingredients out there.  BTMS belongs to a family of ingredients called quaternary ammonium compounds, or “quats.” Research has raised questions about their persistence in aquatic environments and potential effects on organisms downstream. For a regularly used product going down the drain everyday, it feels imperative to find better than a ‘less bad’ solution. As a company we are dedicated to working with ingredients that are both effective and safe. Sometimes that means having to go further to explain why a product feels different (Day to Day Conditioner), looks different (power cleanser concentrates) or has different packaging (jars for deodorant). This takes extra work, but the convo is worth it.  We’ve got to stay nimble as we continue to learn, update and evolve. Thanks for being with us on the wild ride! 📸: the brilliant @hayflux with the beautiful @jentry_noel by @fatandthemoon
