Some books entertain you. Some books stay with you. Girls Don’t Travel Just for Flowers🎀💐 did both for me.

As someone who has never traveled outside my country, this book took me places I have never been and allowed me to see the world through the eyes of its protagonist. It reminded me that girls can dream beyond society’s expectations, seek adventure, embrace new experiences, and create lives filled with purpose and possibility.
Attending the book review and listening to the author speak made me appreciate the story even more. Thank you to Otobong Tom for writing such an inspiring and empowering novel. Through your words, I traveled farther than I ever imagined.

There are books that tell a story, and then there are books that immerse you in a world you never knew existed. The Agency by Eniola Ositelu does the latter.

The novel follows Bamidele, a 50-year-old man recently released from prison, who returns to Lagos, Nigeria, after many years away. Determined to leave his past behind, he chooses an unexpected path, not by returning to his former profession, but by starting over in the marketing and creative industry. Watching him navigate an unfamiliar career while trying to rebuild his life is one of the book’s greatest strengths.

What stood out to me most was how Eniola Ositelu uses Bamidele’s journey to pull readers behind the scenes of the creative and marketing world. We often see the finished campaigns, polished advertisements, and successful brands, but rarely do we think about the strategy, client negotiations, office politics, creative disagreements, deadlines, and power plays that make them possible. The novel offers an insider’s perspective without feeling like a lecture, making the industry feel both fascinating and authentic.

Beyond the workplace, The Agency is ultimately a story about people. It explores power dynamics in corporate spaces, the weight of reputation, the importance of family, and the possibility of second chances. Bamidele’s journey is a reminder that rebuilding your life is rarely straightforward. Starting over requires resilience, humility, and the willingness to step into unfamiliar spaces despite carrying the burden of your past.

One of the novel’s greatest achievements is its cast of characters. They each bring different ambitions, flaws, and perspectives, making the workplace feel alive rather than existing solely as a backdrop for Bamidele’s story. Their interactions reflect the realities of ambition, leadership, mentorship, and the compromises people make in pursuit of success.

If you love workplace fiction and character-driven stories, The Agency is a compelling read about redemption, second chances, and the courage to start over. by @fateeiah

There are moments that remind you just how kind people can be🥹

I attended the Roommates series launch and had to leave early because I had a test the next day. Later, I mentioned to Olatundun how disappointed I was that I’d missed getting my book signed.

She didn’t have to do anything else, but she did.

She signed a copy for me and surprised me with this incredibly thoughtful package🥹♥️

Thank you, @olatundunx , for your generosity and for making what I thought was a disappointing ending into such a memorable one. I’ll treasure this, and your kindness, for a very long time. 🤍 by @fateeiah

P.S. This is me stepping out of my comfort zone. 🥹 I’ve never been a fan of doing voiceovers because I always feel like I speak too fast and don’t like the sound of my recorded voice. But I’m choosing progress over perfection, so here’s to showing up anyway. 🤍

Thank you @olatundunx for a wonderful evening, I love ittt🥹
