Existing as a Black, brown, queer woman — especially on this side of the world — can sometimes feel extraordinarily lonely. IYKYK.

For years, I’ve wanted to experience a proper listening party. And at some point I realised: I can’t keep waiting for the spaces I want to exist. Sometimes you have to make the room yourself — and find the people like you.

On Monday morning, a divine crossing of paths with Kween G @kibone.ancestory turned an idea into a collaboration. Four days later, at midnight, we were inside @redrattlersydney and its professional sound system, listening to @victoriamonet’s Frequency of Love together.

Who showed up? The people who were meant to be there.

Black and brown women.
Queer folk.
True lovers of Victoria’s work. Not the wild numbers of RSVPs we were expecting — but the people who chose to come out at midnight on a school night, ahead of a public holiday weekend. Thirty of us standing inside a phenomenal sound system and giving a record the thing music so rarely gets anymore: our complete attention.

From the sound bowl and transcendent vocal harmonies of track one, All I Need — like touching God’s face, imo — through all 22 tracks and 1 hour and 6 minutes, we listened, danced, bopped, cried and were, quite frankly, awe-struck.

To my ears, Frequency of Love is astonishing — layered, intelligent, sensual, sonically revelatory and deeply crafted.

And with this history-making work, I looked around that room and saw women gathered together — listening, vibing, reflecting on what this album has meant for the years they’ve lived and the years yet to come.

And to that I say: what a gift.

We wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Thank you @victoriamonet.

Victoria Monét Album Launch Midnight Listening Party Gadigal/Sydney

RSVP 🔗 IN BIO

📆Thursday night, 1st October.
📍Red Rattler Theatre, Marrickville
🚪Doors: 11:30 pm
💿Album drops: Midnight
🖤Dress Code: RnB Elegance meets Vogue editorial
🔒 Capped at 300 ppl. Over 100 folks already. RSVP fast.

You’re invited to an intimate Sydney listening party celebrating multi-Grammy Award-winning @victoriamonet and the release of her new album, Frequency of Love.

We’re bringing together music lovers, artists, creatives, and industry folk at the Red Rattler to experience the album together as soon as it lands in Australia.

Australia is among the first countries in the world to receive major international album releases. So while much of the world is still counting down, we’ll be in a room together as Frequency of Love goes live at midnight.

Rather than experiencing that moment alone through a screen, we wanted to create something communal: a room full of people who love Victoria’s work, respect her artistry and want to celebrate this next chapter properly.

There’ll be music, drinks, community and the full album played in the room from midnight

The evening will also be professionally filmed, capturing this first-wave Australian celebration of the record and posting it on socials within hours for Victoria, her team, and global fans to see.

💜 Wear It Purple Day at Waverley College hit differently this year. Faustina 'Fuzzy' Agolley held the room from the opening minute, and by the Q&A, students were speaking openly about identity and inclusion, some for the first time in front of their peers.

"You sure know how to read a room; your presentation impacted every student", one staff member told us. Teachers said the compliments didn't stop all day.

Watch the recap. 🎥

Yeah, not doing a Reel for this one.

I was asked to speak at a boys’ school for Wear It Purple Day. Seven days ago, I delivered the keynote and a private AMA at @waverleycollege.

I’ve been thinking about the experience ever since. The whole story is in this carousel.

Thank you @waverleycollege for having me 💜
And thank you Ollie and Mikey for shredding so hard 🤘🏾

Trying to come out safely was hands down the hardest years of my life. On this Mardi Gras eve, my hope is that for those still questioning, trying to find a signal through all the noise, get the clarity they need to begin building a beautiful joy-filled life in the fullness of their image. Cause it’s dope AF on the other side of the rainbow. 🌈

My thanks to @harrietinnit and @archierosedistillingco for this conversation.

Happy Mardi Gras. 🌈🏳️‍🌈🙏🏾
