ACL rehab explained by the office. you’re welcome.

___

→ quad strength is priority. within 10% of your other leg
→ testing beats guessing
→ timelines vary. yours won’t match your mate’s
→ rehab has stages. skipping them is where setbacks happen
→ pain-free is not the finish line

___

want to know where you actually sit on your timeline?

Remember Justin?

The OGs will remember how this started

2 weeks post ACL + meniscus surgery.
Nervous. On crutches. Just trying to trust his leg again.

Fast forward 7 months —
we’re out on the field.

This wasn’t a gym session.
This was a field day.

Running drills.
Acceleration build-ups.
Deceleration control.
Gradual change of direction work.
Learning how to open up his stride again.

Because getting “strong” in the clinic is one thing

Getting back on the field is another.

Out here, it’s about rhythm.
Confidence at speed.
Trust when your foot hits the ground.
Trust when you have to slow down.
Trust when you have to go again.

And today, you could see it —
less thinking.
More instinct.
More athlete.

We’re getting close now. Very close.

Couldn’t be prouder of this one.
From first steps without crutches
to running freely on the field.

The OGs know how he started. đŸ”„

Chrishan. 9 weeks post ACL surgery. still doing the work.

at this stage it’s about loading the knee in real positions and making stability earn its keep under perturbation.

→ lunge position aqua bag rotations, side to side and up and down
→ acceleration in folded position with front aqua bag punches
→ single and double leg RDLs

nothing here is easy. that’s the point.

the knee has to prove it can handle demand before we ask more of it.

“My knee feels perfect, I’m ready to play.”

___

Every end-stage ACL client says it. And feeling perfect is exactly where the real work starts, not where it finishes.

Before anyone goes back, we prove it: dynamometer testing on both legs, field sessions that rebuild sprinting and cutting, and reactive aqua bag work so the knee can handle chaos.

Strong in the gym isn’t the same as ready on the pitch. That gap is the whole job in months 9 to 12.

Get tested. Get on the field. Then go play.

The difference between a knee that feels ready and a knee that IS ready.

___

End-stage ACL rehab, months 9 to 12, is where most people quietly cut corners. It feels fine, so they call it done.

Bad is trusting the feeling. Good is trusting an opinion. Great is proof:

→ Dynamometer testing, both legs, so readiness is measured not guessed
→ Field sessions that bridge the gym and the pitch
→ Aqua bag and reactive work so the knee handles chaos, not just slow and controlled

Feeling good was never the finish line. Being tested and battle-ready is.

Comment SCORE for the criteria we clear players on.

"My knee feels 100%, why can’t I just play?”

___

Because feeling 100% and testing 100% are two completely different things. End-stage ACL rehab is where that gap gets exposed.

This is the block where we prove it: dynamometer testing, field sessions, reactive work under fatigue, and clear criteria before anyone goes back to sport.

Go back on feel and you risk becoming a re-injury stat. Go back on proof and you go back for good.

Comment SCORE for the exact ACL scorecard I use to break down where you're at.

Six months post ACL and you feel bulletproof. Month nine is where that gets tested.

The back half of ACL rehab is not about babying the knee. It is about teaching it to explode, absorb landings and hold up when you are tired, then slowly handing it back to your sport.

→ Build force you can produce and absorb, not just weight you can lift
→ A knee that survives minute 80, not just your first sprint
→ Running, bounding and landing reintroduced on purpose, not by accident

Skip this phase and you return to sport on a knee that was never stress tested.

Save this if you are in months 6 to 9 and wondering what good actually looks like.

2 months vs 10 months Post ACL surgery: setting expectations.
___

The surgery isn’t the hard part. The early stuff isn’t either. It’s the end stage, months 9 to 12, the change of direction, the hopping, the sprinting, the testing.

Feeling good at 6 months doesn’t mean you are ready to play. It meant you were ready to do the hardest work of the whole rehab.

If you’re early in your ACL journey: don’t stop when it stops hurting. The boring end stage is the part that actually gets you back.

Returning to sport after an ACL isn’t a date. It’s a test you pass.

___

9 months is the earliest you can go back, not the moment you’re ready. Those are two very different things, and confusing them is how people end up back on the table.

Cleared by your surgeon isn’t the same as cleared by your numbers. Straight back into games isn’t the same as earning your minutes.

Return to sport is a decision you earn with data.

Comment SCORE and I’ll send you the ACL comeback scorecard to see where you stand.
