Last week, our Visitor Programme brought a group of international curators to Austria during a busy week with @curatedby.at, @astoria_artshow and @parallelvienna, for exchange and dialogue. The programme took us to ‘Lebt und arbeitet in Wien: Contemporary Art from Vienna’ at @kunsthallewien, ‘Bernhard Leitner’ at @viennasecession, artist-run spaces @mezekere_ and @canwien67, and studio visits with artists living and working in Austria, as well as a site visit to the soon-to-open @atelierhaus_wien – among many others.

Time set aside for independent research gave each curator space to pursue their own interests and build closer connections with artists working in that direction.

Our thanks go to the hosts who welcomed us so generously, and to the participants for the curiosity and openness they brought to the week. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we look forward to staying in touch.

Participants:
Edgaras Gerasimovičius @lute_song @sapiegurumai
Abel González Fernández @abelgonzalez_fernandez @mocadetroit

Yuanyu Li @yuenyukl @parasite.hk
Clémentine Proby @clementineproby @spikeisland
Fatima Bintou Rassoul SY @fbrsy @raw.gram2011

For 30 years, the Prince Claus Fund has celebrated changemakers who challenge the status quo and create lasting change. Today, as we mark this beautiful anniversary — and the 100th anniversary of Prince Claus’s birth — we honour someone who has not only transformed what art can be, but also how it is taught, shared and imagined.

We are proud to announce that the 2026 Impact Awardee is Ghanaian artist, poet and visionary educator, kąrî’kạchä seid’ou.

For decades, seid’ou has challenged the systems through which art is taught, knowledge is produced and cultural authority is distributed, creating new, collective ways of learning, making and imagining.

As founder of the Emancipatory Art Teaching Project at KNUST, he transformed art education by questioning inherited colonial models and empowering generations of critically engaged artists. As co-founder of @blaxtarlines, he helped build an open-source, artist-run community where knowledge is shared rather than owned.

His impact can be seen not only in his own artistic and intellectual practice, but in the communities he has nurtured to grow, shaping Ghana’s contemporary art landscape and contributing to a powerful decolonial discourse across West Africa and beyond.

“His approach has profoundly changed how art is perceived and practiced.”
— @ibrahimmahama3, 2026 Impact Award Jury member.

The Award will be presented to seid’ou at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam on 26 November, as part of our 30th anniversary Awards Week, taking place 23–28 November 2026.

Join us in celebrating kąrî’kạchä seid’ou and the generations of artists, thinkers and cultural practitioners whose work continues to transform what art can be.

ÌMÍ 2026 - WHAT REMAINS WHAT RISES
Creative Residency Lab

Fatima Bintou Rassoul SY, a Dakar-based curator and Programme Director of RAW Material Company. With a strong interest in archives and narratives of black geographies, Fatima’s practice uncovers stories that are often overlooked or untold, and explores the
ways in which communities inhabit and reflect on their own experiences.

She is committed to creating spaces where these stories can be brought to life, preserving collective memory and fostering deeper connections within and between beings. Since joining 2020, she has contributed to the organisation’s curatorial direction, discursive programming and international collaborations.

PODCAST | Episode 4: AUTONOMOUS PRACTICES.

In this episode of STOKVEL, we spend time thinking about accountability and fugitivity. Autonomous Practices call us to deeply consider what values we anchor our practices in that set up the terms for engaging with others. We reflect on the ways in which we check in with ourselves and others. We discuss how to negotiate with dominance from institutions, commissioners, collaborators even ourselves. Fugitivity, opacity and language point us to the ongoing forms of autonomous practice we encounter. These are all questions about negotiation, consideration and position.

Featuring: Anna Nnenna Abengowe (@nnennaabengowe), Fatima Bintou Rassoul SY (@fbrsy), Iyo Bisseck (@bisiyo) and Tshego Mako (@makography_studio).

Hosted in collaboration with Kunsthalle Bern (@kunsthallebern).
