It was just a couple of days ago that Nikon announced the development of T1.9 hybrid AF/manual Z mount cine primes. Now, here’s a big surprise IBC: the 50 mm under glass. There will be 9 primes in the set. They cover the RED V-RAPTOR [X] VV sensor ( 40.96 mm × 21.60 mm — 46.31 mm diagonal) . by @fdtimes

"Nikon Inc. announces the development of the NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV series of cinema lenses. There will be 9 prime lenses, including the NIKKOR Z CINEMA 50mm T1.9 VV shown above. This will be the first NIKKOR lens series with an image circle large enough to cover the RED V-RAPTOR [X] VV sensor ( 40.96 mm × 21.60 mm — 46.31 mm diagonal) . The lenses will also feature a highly precise autofocus mechanism." If the primes share similar ideas from the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ introduced a couple of years ago, they will have absolute encoders that ensure very accurate and repeatable focus in both manual and auto modes. by @fdtimes

Now there are 11. Sigma has added 3 new focal lengths to their Aizu Prime Line—the world’s first Full Frame series of cine lenses to achieve a maximum aperture of T1.3 across all focal lengths (as of Sept 2026).
 https://fdtimes.us/11-aizu-primes

For all DPs and Rental Houses who asked or pleaded for additions to the original core set, here’s looking at you and me.

The look is painterly, smooth and gentle yet sharp where you want sharpness. Wide open at T1.3, the look reminds me of an Impressionist painting. Backgrounds can have a swirly out-of-focus character, with big, graceful bokeh. Sigma describes the look as “quiet elegance and depth, consistent across the entire range of focal lengths from 18 to 125mm.” @sigma_global @sigmaphoto @sigmaglobalvision by @fdtimes

Angénieux introduced a prototype Optimo Ultra 12x 65 zoom lens at IBC last year. It was paired with an ALEXA 265. Focusing on the far end of the Amsterdam trade show floor, portraits had a unique look with smooth skin tones and a gentle fall-off. This 46 - 556 mm T5.6 zoom covers a 60 mm image circle Ø. Christophe Remontet, Angénieux Cinema Optics Managing Director, explained: “The Optimo Ultra 12x 65 has a new optical design specifically developed and optimized for next-generation 65 Format cameras..." by @fdtimes

The New cforce MAX from ARRI is light, small and fast. It is twice as fast and just as powerful as the cforce Plus motor it replaces, yet is 15% smaller and lighter. The cforce MAX can work together with cforce Mini and cforce Mini RF. MAX is useful when working with large and stiff primes, zooms and vintage lenses that need extra motor torque. by @fdtimes

https://fdtimes.us/panoptes65 -------- Earlier this year, Christophe Casenave, Head of the ZEISS Cinematography Business Unit, teased: “We have a few surprises that address some things we see for the future of cine production. Panoptes 65 is our first set of cine lenses for the 65mm format—ready for cameras with even larger sensors that offer distinctly different qualities. We have enjoyed 16mm, 35mm, Super35 and Full Frame. The next big thing to drive uniqueness is the 65mm format. It opens up new dimensions, new looks, new ways of telling stories. It will surely increase in terms of popularity.

“Panoptes 65 is the first ZEISS lens series for the 65 mm format. This dedicated family of large-format cinema primes brings the prestige and immersive scale of 65 mm acquisition into an accessible, production-ready form.”

ZEISS is no stranger to Medium Format lenses. They produced the famous Zeiss/Hasselblad 500 series V-Mount (74.90 mm FFD, approx Ø 85 mm) and Zeiss/Contax 645 (64 mm FFD, approx Ø 78-80 mm) still lenses.

The new Panoptes 65 series comes in 10 focal lengths—from 25 to 180 mm— all T2.2. Notably, they all have a 95mm front diameter, except the 25 and 180 which have 114 mm fronts. The 25mm Panoptes 65 has an angle of view similar to a Super35 format 12mm lens. That’s very wide—for LAWRENCE OF ARABIA style vistas or undistorted up-close and expansive portraits.

The new Panoptes 65 set is consistent in look, well-balanced with natural colors, unobtrusive sharpness, elegant focus fall-off, gentle skin tones and smooth bokeh. @zeisscinematography by @fdtimes

A few weeks ago, director Gareth Edwards and a pre-release Sony FX5 returned from an adventure in Angkor Wat, Bangkok and Katmandu. Our discussion follows, accompanied by great BTS images by Mark Bone. @garethedwardsofficial @sonycine @markandrewbone Gareth begins: "In 2022, we made a film called THE CREATOR. It was a crazy ambitious thing with at least 80 locations in Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Indonesia and Vietnam—all shot with the Sony FX3... Two years later I was contacted by Sony... The first things I noticed about the new FX5 camera were the three things that I really wanted: internal RAW, flip-up monitor and EVF..." fdtimes.us/gareth-fx5 by @fdtimes
