ARCTIC DIVA will premiere in January at @londonshortfilmfest in its UK Competition. It will also screen as be part of LSFF’s Alien Extravaganza programme, organised in collaboration with Frameline Film Festival and the SETI Institute (the real one!), which will then travel to San Francisco in June 2025. Taking a moment to thank everyone who came last month to see Gossamer’s first screenings at BFI Southbank and Curzon Soho during @londonshortfilmfest. Always strange to see something that you think you know like the back of your hand play to a wider audience - it immediately turns into something else, and I’m grateful to be able to see it anew through the reactions of those who came. Sharing with a photo of me and @kdhwillems taken by our friend @alessiobolzoni - who actually introduced us to each other a few years ago and so is responsible for the genesis of this film. by @fedbarni

‘Circled Green’ by Arctic Diva (@fedbarni, @bianca_scout) is out now. A collection of songs made for and born from the short film Arctic Diva (2024) by Federico Barni, a polar gothic sci-fi story about musical communication with the unknown.Organ fragments and field recordings from the EISCAT research station, Svalbard (steps in the snow; the engines of the satellite dishes roaring; ambience from the store room) are diffused with electronics, guitar and harp to flesh out different facets of the titular character Diva. Left isolated and alone in a hostile place, Diva acts as a vessel for the pure, human desire to communicate, delusional but nonetheless universal, even in situations when it feels like no one is listening. Pictures I have taken during the three weeks I have spent on Fårö island to complete my Enclave script, for the final residency section of the UK Next Wave Genre Lab made possible by @film__constellation @britishfilminstitute @tatino.films @pop_up_film_residency. Grateful to have experienced the isolation of wandering these silent plains and woods on my own, totally devoid of humans out of season, when the fictional island from Bergman’s films turns blurry and grey and strangely alluring. I watched a lot of his films, consumed lingonberries in a variety of forms, and was very lucky to have the support of @helenbeltramelinne as a script consultant on this very delicate phase of the process, which seems to be nearing its end point in surprising and satisfying growth spurts. by @fedbarni
