In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, every teacher must choose between the entertainment business and the education business. While the entertainment model often makes great business sense, education is the one thing I will never compromise on.
We run a Jiu-Jitsu school, not a gym. Education requires struggle, and struggle is serious—not entertaining.
When I walk into an academy, I treat it like a temple, moving with respect for the people and the history of the art. Without respect, composure, and discipline, Jiu-Jitsu does nothing more than breed sheep with steel horns.

Great day on the mats with a visit from Professor Francesco Braccini and the crew from Rua 67 Academy, home of Tribe Jiu Jitsu South Florence. It’s always a true pleasure hosting our students, and I hope this session was just as fun and rewarding for them as it was for me.thanks for the visit Fellas! A presto! by @federico_tisi

I first met bjj Legend Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro 24 years ago in Rio de Janeiro during a wrestling session led by the legendary Darrell Gholar.
Over the years, I watched him reach the pinnacle of combat sports as an MMA world champion, build a thriving legacy as a master teacher after moving to the United States, become an accomplished Referee, and celebrate life’s greatest milestones, including marrying his wonderful wife, Jana and raising a beautiful family together.
Fast forward to 2026, and our journey comes full circle. At the end of this month, I have the absolute pleasure and honor of teaching a seminar at Vitor Shaolin’s Academy in New Jersey.
Looking forward to sharing the mats with everyone. See you soon, NJ! taken in Vitor Shaolin Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu New Jersey by @federico_tisi

Happy to announce I’ll be back at Renzo Gracie Rockland on October 28th!
It’s been a few years since my last visit, and I’m looking forward to seeing the new academy. The seminar will focus on the belly-down straight footlock and its defenses—a high-percentage, IBJJF-legal submission valid for all adult and masters divisions.
I hope to see you there!

Complimenti Maestro,

> I tuoi allievi. by @federico_tisi

This goes back to 2010, winning the IBJJF Euros in the Black Belt Master 2 division. The picture says it all: an intense moment of pure joy and validation for years of sacrifice and hard work.
But that victory was strictly personal.
Believing a title automatically makes you a great coach is one of the greatest illusions in modern Jiu-Jitsu. A gold medal brings visibility and walks people through the door—even more so back then than now.
But if your teaching falls short, they won’t stay.
People May be attracted by the athlete, but what They really want is a good teacher.
The vast majority of my students know nothing and couldn't care less about my modest career as a competitor, and that's fine with me.
Medals on the wall prove you’re tough. They say almost nothing about your ability to teach.

Don't confuse the two. by @federico_tisi
