What becomes possible when artists are fully empowered to take risks and reimagine the concert experience?

“Devotion Meets the Symphony” offered a powerful answer.

Curated by Viola Fellow Srivishnu (Vishnu) Ramankutty, this Kirtan-inspired program transformed New World Symphony’s concert hall into a space for music, meditation, and shared connection. Nearly half the audience were first-time attendees, and the reactions were so beautiful to witness.

It is a joy and privilege to mentor young artists as they shape bold ideas, build new audiences, and bring their full identities to the stage! Hearing Vishnu reflect onstage about seeing his two worlds combine was a moment I won’t forget.

A beautiful evening of learning, music, and shared joy. by @felice.doynov

An exciting update!

Earlier this summer, I was honored to step into a new role as the Associate Dean of Visiting Faculty and Entrepreneurship at the New World Symphony.

This work is deeply meaningful to me. It’s about designing and scaling structures that support musicians on and off the stage as bold innovators, cultural architects, and phenomenal performers.

What’s next:
✅ Reimagining residencies as labs for bold, interdisciplinary exploration that support orchestral audition training and entrepreneurial skills.
✅ Expanding NWS BLUE (Build, Learn, Understand and Experiment) Projects to support innovative ventures, collectives, and creative experiments that don’t yet have names.
✅ Growing a cross-sector network of collaborators who see culture as a place for real innovation.

Each of these elements is part of a larger effort to position artist leadership not as something to aspire to, but as a force shaping the field right now.

This work builds on the vision and groundwork of professionals whose contributions made this next chapter possible.

💡 In the coming weeks, I’ll share more about what’s launching, what’s already in motion, and how this work connects with others pushing toward a more sustainable, visionary, and artist-led future.

We are not waiting for the field to shift. We are building the future from within it. by @felice.doynov

Last year, a lady walking by took a photo of us reading in the park. She came up to us, told us we looked peaceful, and airdropped this picture. I’m so grateful she preserved this precious memory for us (a beautiful day amidst the chaos of the world with books, a baguette, and of course, Svet) I’m so excited to (now officially 💙💍!!) spend the rest of my life with you!
