🎉 Yesterday I celebrated Festa de São João, a traditional Brazilian festival filled with music, dancing, bonfires, and corn-based food — a joyful mix of Catholic and rural heritage. I joined four amazing women I met at the gym, and while we laughed, danced, and enjoyed cold beer, we also opened space for deep conversations about trauma and emotional healing.

I shared my path as a future therapist, currently studying psychoanalysis and hypnotherapy to help people transform old survival behaviors shaped by trauma into healthier, more conscious patterns. Healing isn’t always linear, and sometimes it starts in the most unexpected places — even at a party with drinks and laughter.

We also reflected on how substances like alcohol and cannabis are often judged without context. Used responsibly and intentionally, they can be part of meaningful, even healing, experiences. It’s not about promoting use — it’s about breaking stigma and building awareness. Conscious use, respect, and safe spaces make all the difference.

As May ends, let’s hold space for the profound impact of childhood trauma. The coping strategies we developed as children – hypervigilance, people-pleasing, dissociation, emotional numbing – were brilliant, life-saving adaptations. They shielded us when we had no other options.

But survival mode isn’t meant to be a permanent home. Recognizing these mechanisms NOT as brokenness, but as evidence of our incredible resilience, is the first step toward healing. It’s about honoring that wounded inner child for their strength, while compassionately learning new ways of being that serve us better in the safety we can create now.

Healing isn’t erasing the past; it’s integrating our survival wisdom with newfound freedom. You are not defined by what happened to you, but by the fierce resilience that carried you through. Your journey matters. 🌱
