Breast cancer is a life-altering diagnosis.

Even after treatment ends, many patients continue to experience fatigue, loss of strength, emotional stress, and uncertainty about what they can do to support their long-term health.

In this episode of Doctors in the Know I sit down with Dr. Amy Comander, Director of Breast Oncology and Survivorship at the Massachusetts General Hll. She is Co-Medical Director of the MGH Cancer Center in Waltham, and an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Comander’s work in breast oncology has given her a deep appreciation for the lasting impact cancer and its treatment can have on patients’ physical and emotional health. Her clinical experience has shaped a strong commitment to helping survivors improve their well-being through practical, evidence-based changes in areas such as exercise, nutrition, sleep, and stress management. She also serves as the founding co-chair of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine’s Breast Cancer Committee.

While these strategies are especially valuable during and after breast cancer treatment, they are relevant to all women seeking to reduce health risks, maintain strength, and improve overall wellness.

This was a truly enlightening conversation that offers valuable, practical insights for women at every stage of life. Whether you have been personally affected by breast cancer, are supporting someone through treatment or survivorship, or simply want to better understand how everyday choices can influence your long-term health, this is a conversation well worth listening to. Dr. Comander provides an empowering and evidence-based perspective on how lifestyle medicine can help women take a more active and informed role in their health and well-being.

Ovarian cancer does not always announce itself with an obvious warning sign.

In this segment, I speak with Dr. Dennis Chi, a gynecologic oncologist and Head of Ovarian Cancer Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, about the early signs of ovarian cancer and why subtle changes should not be ignored.

The symptoms can be easy to dismiss or attribute to something less serious. But when something feels new, persistent, or different from your normal, it is worth discussing with your doctor.
Early awareness matters.

I sat down with the world renowned ovarian cancer surgeon @dennischimd, Head of the Ovarian Cancer Surgery Section and Deputy Chief of Gynecology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, to unpack how experts decide between upfront surgery and other treatments. What an amazing conversation.
