healing into wholeness

healing comes when we stop omitting parts of ourselves, and instead get curious.

when a difficult part or moment arises, instead of ‘wronging’ it, try asking “what does this part know?”

our exiles hold wisdom. maybe they know about protection, safety, belonging.

ex: my busy mind during meditation. i could fight it. or i could turn towards it.

“what are you protecting me from?” revealed to me deep exhaustion and emotional pain underneath. the active mind was a defense mechanism against feeling it. so wise!

once acknowledged, the part softened its grip, and i was able to meet what was truly present.

difficult parts are our allies— they’re just running outdated programming.

the medicine is to turn towards them with warmth and curiosity. to literally re-member our wholeness, one omitted piece at a time, until all of us is welcome.

this goes for hard moments as well. what’s here right now? how can I meet it? what’s in the way? can i let that go?

easier said than done, but a worthwhile lifelong practice. also, wtf do I know - see for yourself :)

Hi all! I’m excited to announce my first official workshop: Intro to Sound Design & Mix 🔊

Join me (Calvin Pia) for a deep-dive into the realms of sound design and mixing for film, TV, web and other moving visual mediums using ProTools.

In this two-part virtual offering, I will share tips from my decades-long experience in professional audio post. We’ll touch upon topics such as: dialog editing & clean-up, sound design & foley, EQ & processing, mixing & monitoring, loudness specs, templates and workflow, ProTools shortcuts, studio tips, career advice, and more.

I imagine this course being great for musicians looking to pivot careers or learn a new skillset, editors & filmmakers looking to expand their toolkit, budding sound designers & engineers looking to plus-up their skills & gain new perspectives, or any sound-curious person looking to get a foundation of understanding in the realms of audio post-production. (*NOTE: While some basic ProTools knowledge may be helpful, no technically experience is required)

〰️CURRENTS 〰️ Best of ’23 Edition, up now (link in bio)

2023 - you were a bit of a f*cker, but what a teacher. You were a year of growth & shedding— of painful yet fruitful expansion. Of holding multiple truths, while getting more attuned with my own. Of choosing love over fear. And remembering to play and make music again.

On a personal level, I’ve learned / am learning a lot. That old patterns die hard. That I am whole exactly as I am (and so are you). That self-expression is a vulnerable and essential part of being alive. That perfectionism is death, and that creativity is life. That I’m a baritone voice. That true joy comes from releasing resistance, and becoming present to what is. That moving my body is essential for mental heath— and so are meditation and taking breaks from this platform. That I can trust the unknown. That video games are still fun. That in an ever-polarizing world, the middle path can be radical. That silence is vital. That we cannot know peace until we embody it. That filling our own cup is the only way we can truly show up for others. And that our cat is, and continues to be, the best horse.

Thank you all for embracing Felt Sound into existence in 2023. It’s been a humble yet fruitful year. I got to help tell some wonderful stories through sound this year. Big love to the incredibly talented filmmakers and artists I collaborated with— too many to name, you know who you are 🙏

In a world with so much pain and suffering, it is not lost on me how lucky I am to be safe, healthy and fed, with friends and family within reach, and to be able to do what I love. May all beings be free from suffering. And may we all learn to listen more deeply.

Come attune yourself to The Rhythm of Rest; an intimate evening of sound healing, guided mediation, tea and community - hosted by myself and @olivia_ashtonn. Let us accept winter’s generous invitation to slow down and receive the wisdom that arises from stillness.

🎐

There is a rhythm that beats at the heart of creation; a continual cadence of activity and rest. Two polar energies that when in balance, bring vitality.

There’s a rhythm to the dance between day and night, between the creativity of waking-life and the nourishment of sleep. Theres a rhythm to the cycles of the seasons - how the dormancy of winter replenishes the earth, allowing fresh life to bloom come spring. Within our bodies, the heart rests after each life-giving beat. Activity, rest, activity, rest, activity, rest. A resounding drumbeat of reciprocity.

This eternal rhythm animates all life, yet our modern culture has forgotten this truth. With its demands for constant production, we’ve fallen out of balance. May we attune ourselves to the wisdom of winter and remember the vital importance of rest. It is from this place of deep stillness and restoration that we will gather.
