We are pleased to welcome Cameron Hamilton as our confirmed Administrator. Under @POTUS and @SecretaryMullin's leadership, we are restoring FEMA's original mission — serving as a lean, deployable disaster force that empowers states, tribes and local leaders.

“The American people deserve a FEMA that is not bogged down with bureaucracy, but one that is focused on preparing and supporting state, local, tribal and territorial governments to get the help that is needed to their communities.” —Administrator Hamilton Man in a black suit and red tie standing confidently beside the American flag and a Department of Homeland Security flag indoors. by @fema

Recovery from Hurricane Isaias is being led by state and local officials and responders, with support from nonprofit and voluntary organizations across the country. In Santa Rosa County, @TeamRubicon crews cleared large fallen trees so utility crews from Oklahoma could safely reach damaged lines, replace power poles and restore service.

This is recovery in action: states helping other states and partners working side by side to help communities move forward. Four utility workers in safety vests and helmets walk along a road near fallen power lines and damaged poles under a clear blue sky. by @fema

As we continue to support communities recovering from Hurricane Isaias, we are deeply grateful for the dedication of our voluntary agency partners. Today, we want to highlight two incredible organizations that are on the ground in affected communities:

🍽️ Mercy Chefs
When disaster strikes, hope can begin with a hot meal. @MercyChefs has been instrumental in providing nourishing meals to survivors and first responders. Their commitment to feeding body and soul brings comfort when it is most needed.

🛠️ Team Rubicon
From clearing debris and removing downed trees to helping homeowners with damaged homes, @TeamRubicon’s hard-working volunteers bring critical skills and tireless energy to the recovery effort.

Partnerships like these are the backbone of disaster response. Thank you to all voluntary agencies for your unwavering support, compassion and partnership.

States and tribes are leading the response to Isaias, and FEMA is supporting their efforts. Yesterday, FEMA leadership met with @AlabamaEMA_ to survey damage and discuss immediate needs. More than 1,000 FEMA and federal personnel are deployed to assess damage, identify what resources are needed, and help deliver assistance quickly. by @fema

FEMA has personnel, equipment and critical supplies on the ground and ready to support states responding to Hurricane #Isaias.

Ahead of the storm, we’ve staged water, meals, tarps, generators and other resources across the region. Our incident management teams are deploying to Alabama, Georgia and Florida, and search and rescue teams are positioned to respond if needed.

We’re working closely with state and local officials to anticipate needs and quickly provide federal support when requested.

We are monitoring Hurricane Isaias and pre-staging personnel and resources to support state and local partners. FEMA Region 4 and FEMA headquarters have activated Response Coordination Centers and stand ready to support state and local needs ahead of impacts.

Isaias is forecast to strengthen and may bring dangerous winds, storm surge, heavy rain, and tornadoes to parts of the Gulf Coast. Take the storm seriously and follow instructions from local officials.

🚨FEMA’s seal, name, and credibility are not tools for scammers to exploit for personal gain. When someone pretends to have federal backing, misuses government symbols or deceives the public, we will work with our partners to expose fraud and pursue accountability.

Swipe to learn about an ongoing case of a fraudster who used government seals to scam people into paying his organization money. He recently pleaded guilty and now faces up to 20 years in federal prison while undergoing deportation proceedings. Communities across the nation are served by emergency managers working at every level of government and across industries, including educational, faith-based, and nonprofit institutions. The field of emergency management is essential but has experienced mission creep and unclear expectations that weaken our effectiveness. We must go back to basics.

FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton issued new guidance establishing FEMA's definition of emergency management as “the strategic coordination of emergency services to protect life, property, and continuity of operations.”

Emergency managers serving across all industries and levels of government need a strong professional foundation. Going forward, we will clearly define the standards for emergency management and ensure our programs, doctrine, training, and operations support that definition.

We will also define common responsibilities and professional skills for emergency management to improve policies, training, and workforce readiness. By using this consistent approach at all levels, we can strengthen the profession and deliver a more secure homeland. by @fema

Today, FEMA announced $300 million in grant awards to more than 1,600 houses of worship and other nonprofits across the country. They will use this money to harden their defenses against potential attacks, including acts of terrorism or targeted violence.

Nonprofits receiving awards include Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, and Jewish affiliated institutions. The majority of the funding will be awarded to houses of worship, but selected organizations also include schools, medical facilities, senior centers, camps, museums, shelters and community centers. In the two years since Helene impacted communities, homes and businesses, we've provided more than $22.7 billion to support recovery across North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. This funding reflects @potus's and @secretarymullin's commitment to helping affected communities rebuild, recover and reduce future disaster risk.
