Everything I write comes back to one thing. Your body was never the problem.

Not in birth. Not in illness. Not in the years your hormones shift and everyone hands you a solution before they hand you an explanation. Not in your marriage, your mothering, your grief, your face in the mirror.

We were raised inside a story that the body is unreliable. That it needs correcting, silencing, improving, watching. Almost every woman I know has spent years at war with hers on the strength of that.

I write for the woman who is beginning to suspect it isn't true.

The volumes are just doorways. Fascia, feng shui, conception, marriage, death. Different rooms in the same house. And the house is this. You have a body that knows what it is doing, in a world that keeps telling you it does not.

Return to your nature.

A woman proved you can heal a cavity in 1932. Then everybody forgot.

May Mellanby spent a decade working out that nutrition controls the reparative dentin your own cells lay down, in both quantity and quality, and that it works even in badly built teeth. Then she proved it in children in a controlled trial published in the British Medical Journal. Ninety-three per cent fewer new cavities, and existing ones hardening and arresting behind a thick barrier of new dentine.

Weston Price got the same result on the other side of the Atlantic and reported over ninety per cent of active cavities reversed without fillings.

Then fluoride arrived, drilling became the standard, and a hundred years went by.

Nobody is going to run the trial again. There is no money in a tooth that fixes itself.

I am not here to give you another wellness routine. I am not here to give you the alternative mainstream version of the same old thing.
Nature on the outside is just a mirror to the nature that is within you. Your spiritual nature. Your emotional nature. Your essential nature. We are not separate from nature. We are nature.
I got sober at 18 and built a life I could never have imagined from that place. I spent 2 weeks alone in a chamber in Gabon and found God. I birthed my babies at home. Alone. Healed my body from the inside out. Loved the same man for 18 years and learned exactly how to make that work. Guided others through the deepest reckonings of their lives. Through all of it I found exactly where I belong in this world.
I walk the walk. Ask anyone who knows me.
It is much deeper. Much more powerful. Much more available to you than you have been led to believe.
I am going to take you to the root. To the heart. To the freedom at the centre of it all. Through everything I share here.

The rose was the flower of silence before it was ever the flower of love.

A rose hung above a table meant that whatever was said beneath it stayed there. The Romans carved them into the ceilings of their banquet halls. Christians later carved them into confessionals. Sub rosa, under the rose, still means in confidence.

Rosary comes from rosarium, a rose garden. And the beads were once actual roses. Petals mashed to a pulp, simmered in an iron pot until they thicken into clay, rolled by hand, pierced, dried for days. They shrink to half their size as they harden. The iron is what turns them black. The scent stays inside the bead, and the warmth of your hand as you move through the prayer draws it back out. Rosaries made fifty years ago still smell of the garden.

Then the geometry. Every wild rose has five petals, seventy two degrees apart, which is a pentagon. Draw the diagonals and you have a pentagram, and the ratio of the diagonal to the side is phi.

Venus takes 224 days to orbit the sun. Thirteen of those orbits land almost exactly on eight of our years, and inside that span the sun and Venus meet five times, evenly spaced. Plot the meetings across the sky and Venus draws a five-petalled flower. Astronomers call it the pentagram of Venus. Some call it the Rose of Venus.

Five, eight, thirteen. Fibonacci numbers in order.

The rose was Venus’s flower for thousands of years before anyone could plot what the planet was doing up there.

I made my daughter a set of rose beads for her first birthday, with my sons, from roses grown on the farm where we live.

Her name is Rose. She’s named after my grandmother. by @femininemothering

Seven signs your body isn’t malfunctioning. It’s healing.

You wake around 3am, wide awake for no reason. In my understanding of German New Medicine, that’s often the body deep in its repair phase, the quiet restoration that happens in the small hours. You’re surfacing into the mending.

The cold that floors you the moment you finally rest. You held it together all week, then the holiday began and you were wiped out. The body swung into repair the instant it felt safe enough to let go.

The skin flare, the eczema, the rash. In this lens, skin carries conflicts of separation, contact lost or contact you want gone. The flare is often the tissue healing after that separation resolves, not the enemy your creams are fighting.

The bloating that comes and goes. The gut holds what you couldn’t digest, the thing you couldn’t stomach, the anger you couldn’t swallow.

The migraine, which follows a conflict about losing control and arrives once you’ve let go of controlling what you couldn’t.

The cough that lingers long after you feel well. The body finishing on its own timeline, not an infection you failed to kill.

And the pain that flares just as life finally calms. You coped through the hard stretch, then the ache came once it was over. That’s the pattern under all of it. The body waited until it was safe.

This is my own understanding and my chosen philosophy, not clinical fact. It’s the lens I read my body through, and I’ve written it out in full in my volume *Natural Medicine Chest* 🌿

I am nearly through the first trimester, and I am very much still in the thick of it.

The day a child comes to you was never yours to choose. A soul picks its own moment. The exact week they need to be conceived ripples out across a whole family and far past it, into a pattern already laid down and waiting to unfold. You are not the author of that timing. You are the one it happens through.

Easy enough to write. Another thing entirely to live with your hand open while you wait.

This is my first pregnancy after a miscarriage.
Pregnancy after a loss asks something different again. There is a version of it where you hold the baby at arm’s length, love it a little less on purpose, until it feels for sure, keep something back so that there is less to lose. It looks like acceptance from the outside, but acceptance and surrender are so different in my experience. I decided to fully claim and own the pregnancy, for however long it may last, as we never have certainty in life, and my trust in my body has certainly been tested. I chose to feel all the deep feelings- joy, awe, excitement, dreaming, right from the beginning, with a grip loose enough to know it’s already written and perfectly unfolding. The build up to the moment in gestation that I gave birth prematurely to my baby was a time of active surrender. Once I passed that moment it became easier. To become pregnant is such a deep miracle and blessing, for however long it lasts. And I do believe this pregnancy is here to stay the journey.

The intense violent nausea day and night and flooring exhaustion have been reminder that baby is growing and the hormones are increasing. I had no symptoms in my last pregnancy that ended in release.

Real surrender is the opposite of holding back. It is opening your hands in the exact moment every instinct in you says close them. Not less love. More, and without the guarantee.

So here I am approaching the end of the first trimester. Riding the waves of it all, fully surrendered to the sensation, the exhaustion, the mess and the beauty. by @femininemothering

Nobody tells you that the egg was made inside your mother. It formed while you were still a foetus in her body, stopped partway through a cell division, and waited there for thirty-odd years until the month it was released.

Or that the egg does the choosing. It puts out a chemical trail and the sperm follow it, and when researchers gave sperm a choice between two women’s follicular fluid, one woman’s drew in one man’s sperm and another woman’s drew in a different man’s. The egg’s preference did not always match the woman’s.

Or that the empty shell the egg came out of turns into a gland, carries the entire pregnancy for ten weeks while the placenta is being built, and then dissolves and is absorbed the moment it is no longer needed. You will never hear it mentioned again.

Or that in week six the nervous system starts firing at nothing. No light, no sound, nothing touching it. The cells just begin making electricity on their own, in the dark, months before anything an EEG would call a brain wave.

What you do get told is that you should be fine. So here is the other half.

Your kidneys are filtering fifty per cent more blood. Your heart is moving a fifth more of it. Every vessel in you is wide open, which is why your vision goes when you stand up. Progesterone breaks down into a compound that binds the same brain receptors as an anaesthetic, so the tiredness is not in your head. And the sickness is not yours either. That hormone is made in the placenta and lands on the part of your brainstem that triggers vomiting.

None of it shows. You look exactly as you did a month ago.

Except for the bloating.

Pontzer’s team went looking for the ceiling on human endurance. They measured Tour de France cyclists, men hauling sledges across Antarctica, and runners who crossed America at roughly a marathon a day for twenty weeks.

Everything topped out around 2.5 times basal metabolic rate. Push past it and the body starts eating itself.

Pregnancy sits at 2.2. For nine months.

Nobody claimed pregnancy is as hard as the Tour. What they found is that the same ceiling governs both, and that a pregnant woman gets close to it without doing anything at all.

The first trimester is where it starts and it is the part with no evidence attached. Cardiac output up a fifth by week eight. Plasma volume expanding. Blood pressure falling, which is the grey-out when you stand. Thirty to fifty per cent more air moving through you every minute at the same breathing rate, so you are taking deeper breaths all day without knowing it. A whole organ under construction.

The exhaustion has a mechanism. Progesterone breaks down into allopregnanolone, which acts on the same brain receptors anaesthetics do. Researchers in that field call these compounds endogenous anaesthetics.

The sickness has one too. GDF15 comes from the placenta and the baby, crosses into your blood, and acts on the vomiting centre in your brainstem. How ill you get depends on your own sensitivity to it, which explains why one woman is floored and another barely notices.

So you are running an endurance event under sedation, and you look exactly as you did in June.

This is the trimester women are expected to work through without mentioning it.
