Close up of my August full moon collage. Swipe to see a peek into the final steps of the collage process.

Because of the fragility of the vintage paper pieces and my layering style, I do the gluing process when I have a clear head and can focus. I use glue sticks and little pieces of scotch tape to put the collage together. I glue the final piece to white Bristol paper and now it’s ready to frame!

Summer Solstice, June 21st, the “sun standing still.” The longest day of the year, where the sun lights up everything beneath it. A reminder to embrace its vital creative energy while also pausing to reflect on, and be with, exactly where you are now.

In making this collage, I was reminded that sometimes where we start and what we plan for is not where we often end up….a message I needed to receive after a personally challenging year so far. Sometimes we need to write words to process our experiences and sometimes we need to collage; to start cutting things up, rearranging and finding new connections again and again. This time something softer emerged, a slower summer vibe yet still revealing that the bold golden light of the sun will shine through.

sometimes the curves and the lines lead the way. sometimes the collage process is working with several pieces until only the essential ones remain. often times it starts with one image that seeks my attention and resonates.
