✨ Time for a little introduction!

👋🏼 I’m Fernanda — I empower writers by helping them develop manuscripts and championing them through the publishing world.

📖 I founded Fernanda Literary after 7+ years of work in different areas of the industry. And while the job has changed, my goal remains the same: to help strong ideas become stronger books.

Cover reveal! 📓💋

💖 We’re thrilled to finally reveal the cover of Sucked In by @michellekmedia, forthcoming from @beaconpress

If you grew up with low-rise jeans, celebrity tabloids, diet commercials, and hearing that “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels,” this one is for you 😉

Part cultural criticism, part investigation, and part reckoning with the pop culture we thought was *so* cool, Sucked In examines how the diet culture of the ‘90s and 2000’s shaped the way a generation of women learned to see—and police—their bodies.

These books made me fall in love with words and are the reason I got into publishing.

They shaped how I read, and eventually how I edit.

📖 A book is more than its final polished version.

Agents and editors see how much bravery and vulnerability it takes to write something true.

The drafts in our inbox right now may not be perfect, but they are curious and in search of meaning, which is infinitely more powerful to us. We’ll help them get where they need to be ✨

✨📚Reading beyond our authors’ work keeps us sharp. We’re always curious about how taste shifts & evolves, and beyond any industry metric…this is a great reminder of why we do what we do 🫶🏼

So, you’ve got a book idea—amazing! Then why aren’t any agents willing to sign you on the spot?! Let’s talk about a few common mistakes first-time authors make (and how to avoid them). ✍️✨

🔹 Mistake #1: Querying the wrong agents
Sending out queries to everyone and their mother might seem like your best bet—the more the merrier, right? 🤦🏻‍♀️ Having a clear idea of which agents align with your vision will save you time and frustration.

🔹 Mistake #2: A mismatched pitch
Your book isn’t for everyone—and that’s a good thing! Understanding exactly what your book is about and knowing how to convey that to others is the key to success.

🔹 Mistake #3: Submitting a rough draft
True, perfectionism kills progress. But a manuscript that seems unfinished can kill your book deal. Editing your work early—whether by sharing it with a writing group, beta readers, or an editor—helps you refine your ideas and submit the best version of your work.

✨ Which of these have you struggled with the most? Drop a comment!
