How Many Birds Can You Count? . . . .♥️ Today is the first day of the Great Backyard Bird Count. Please join us… and help protect our birds. It only takes 15 minutes; you can participate for only one day or all four (February 13 - 16, 2026) See birdcount.org for more information — it’s really simple and fun. “Count for as little as 15 minutes in your own backyard to help expand our understanding of birds. The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a free, fun, and easy event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. Participants are asked to count birds for as little as 15 minutes (or as long as they wish) on one or more days of the four-day event and report their sightings online at birdcount.org. Anyone can take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count, from beginning bird watchers to experts, and you can participate from your backyard, or anywhere in the world.

Each checklist submitted during the GBBC helps researchers at Audubon, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and Birds Canada learn more about how birds are doing, and how to protect them and the environment we share.” (Thank you to Alisa Williams for sharing the beauty and magic of Amanda and the Owls 🦉) by @fernandannie

A blessing to the wisdom of trees . . . 💛

And when I rise, let me rise,
Like a bird, joyfully
And when I fall, let me fall,
Like a leaf, gracefully
When I stand, let me stand,
Like a tree, strong and tall,
And when I lie, let me lie,
Like a lake, reflecting all.
When I resist, I will resist,
Like the sea, relentlessly.
And when I speak, I will speak,
Like the wind, loud and free.

To Love that Well Which Thou Must Leave . . . 💛
“That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin’d choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see’st the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire,
Consum’d with that which it was nourish’d by.
This thou perceiv’st, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.”

Sweet morning grace . . .🩵
“Here, on the pulse of this new day
May you have the grace to look up and out
And into your sister’s eyes, and into
Your brother’s face, your country
And say simply
Very simply
With hope—
Good morning.“

For the love of berries . . . ♥️
my garden is a tangle of wild brambles. one for me and two for the red bird; one for me and three for the wren; one for me and four for the catbird. Then we start all over again.

Zen and the art of pea shelling . . . 💚
and the pea-eyed cat with no patience for peas (or “will you pet me NOW, please?”)

Five little peas in a pea pod pressed, One grew, two grew and so did all the rest, They grew, and they grew, and they did not stop, They grew so big that the pea pod popped!
