I was blessed to recently receive @sneakerfreakermag 's The Ultimate Sneaker Book. If you are truly into sneakers like I am, this one is a must. No matter how many pairs you have or are aware of, it's impossible to get them all in hand. This book comes to the rescue by comprehensively providing info on the history, culture, and meaning of a myriad of pairs that left their mark in the world of sneakers. For that reason, I give this piece the highest of recommendations.

Shoutout to @raul.martinez.johnson and family for this amazing thoughtful gift that I will always cherish.

Grey laces on the Toro Bravo pop the hardest for me. I took these off of the most recent "Shadow" AJ1 Low (thank goodness for spare laces 😅).

People say the red on this pair is ashy compared to the original, so I thought, why not throw ash grey laces on 'em. This is one of those pairs I thought I'd never have the chance to get my hands on. At lower than retail price, it was a must-have. I have to admit, 2026 is a great time to be a sneakerhead. These kicks are one of many examples of why. #followfernskicks

When you think of the Reebok Pump TZ, nostalgia instantly comes to mind. The sight of them takes you back to a time when NBA basketball seemed larger than life. A way bulkier shoe than its modern counterparts, with its signature basketball shaped button on the top of the tongue, the Pump has always attracted instant attention.
Fast forwarding to today's era, we haven't seen Pump TZs on basketball courts in quite some time. Where you may see them is on the feet of those of us who always yearned to have them but probably couldn't back in '91. They are truly something to hold in hand and finally put on your feet, representing a culmination of decades of perseverance on both your and the sneaker's part.
It seems like it takes a million pumps on these retro Reeboks to get the tongue to inflate, but put that to the side. These kicks are sturdy, relatively comfortable by todays standards, and look pretty badass with the right fit.
Now it's finally time to pump these bad boys up and hit the streets. Nostalgia fuels the memories we are going to make, and through the ups and the downs, our kicks will be an important part of them.

There are few sneakers throughout history that are as cool as the Reebok Question. Back in 1996, when these first dropped, if you had these, it was like having a black leather biker jacket in the 1950s. They stood for rebellion, edgyness, individuality, and the vigor and ambition of youth. Allen Iverson's first signature shoe was a masterful embodiment of what the player himself brought to the game. It looks like it's built for speed, sleek yet durable. The clear outsole gives it a modern look, while the toecap and branding show its flair for style. These visual hits, coupled with Iverson's style of play, made this pair a sensation among the new generation that had just missed the classic 1982-1992 sneaker/NBA era.

The claim to fame for the Reebok Question is that Iverson had this "blue toe" version on his feet when he crossed up Michael Jordan. It's an image that all of us 1990's NBA fans have permanently etched into our minds. It was a sort of David vs. Goliath moment with the young upstart facing one of the greatest defensive players ever. Undaunted and confidently, AI squared up against MJ, took the ball left, then right, then left, then right again as MJ committed to the steal attempt. This gave Iverson just enough space to jump and shoot it into the basket. As the crowd roared on their feet, the "Question" was answered. Allen Iverson was indeed next up in this league, and this small guard was poised to leave a giant legacy in the history of the game...

The Reebok Shaq Attaq is one of those sneakers that evokes 90s nostalgia. For those that don't know, when these came out on the stregnth of Shaquille O'Neal's early career exploits, they were all the rage. They were stylish for their time, had a really versatile color scheme, plus, you could pump them up! When these retroed in 2022, I could not pass up the opportunity to add them to the collection.

I feel like these are best known for that time when Shaq dunked the ball so hard that he broke the basket support versus the New Jersey Nets. Everyone knew he was great, but in that moment, he truly arrived in the NBA and put everyone on notice. I bring that moment to you now through the power of Instagram 🤣.

This current retro looks great and feels great on feet. Props to Reebok for making these available again and doing a good job with them. The only gripe I have is that the pump system doesn't work as well as the original did. Hopefully, that's something they will work on with future models if they haven't already. Despite that, these still go as hard as Shaq did when he broke that basket.

DJ Khaled has long been a fixture in the social media sneaker community. A big fan of Jordan Brand, he's been rocking Js as he says, "Since birth." He's had a couple of collaborations with Jordan, including 2022's Air Jordan 5 "WeThe Best."

There were a few colorways of this shoe that released, but I liked best and had to have this "sail" iteration. The light color was subtle yet would stand out when matched up with the right fit. Having the shoe in hand, you first notice the plush materials. The velvety interior, the thick supple leather, the luxurious golden branding, and reflective material both within and on the outside of the shoe attest to the quality and care that was put into them. While a few pairs of extra laces come with these, I elected to go with the faded purple strings over the rest. I felt the midsole color should be called attention to and bring some contrast to the cascade of off-white color on the upper. It's a touch of pop that lets you know this pair is not regular.

Finally, on the back of each tongue, there's a message Khaled wants us all to never forget. There is an upside down patch that says, "KEEP GOING." It is just a reminder that we have to continue to move forward toward our goals, no matter how difficult reaching those positive goals may be. I'm sure he wants these kicks to inspire and remind us of the story of a kid who lugged around crates of records aspiring to be a DJ went from nobody to somebody by never giving up. If he could defy the odds and do it, maybe, just maybe, we can as well.

I popped these on for the first time a couple of days ago and was really impressed with them. The "Coconut Milk" Air Jordan 1 low EX is just one of those unconventional takes on the silhouette that will leave a surprisingly pleasant impression on those who come in contact with it.

Favorite feature: The deconstructed materials

This pair seems almost inside out when you look at it. Still, somehow, it feels complete. They remind us that we're all working on something. Just because we might not be done with it just yet doesn't mean that what we have thus far isn't beautiful.

In honor of Air Max Month 2024, I present my favorite Air Maxes!

5. Air Max Zero QS (2015)

This is the original concept for Air Max brought to fruition. Lightweight, breathable, synthetic materials compose this model 40 years after it was first thought of. Holding it in hand, one truly can understand the vision behind the entire lineage. This pair is novel yet timeless.

4. Air Max 360 (2006)
We could finally walk on air with this one. After years of research and development, Nike was finally able to have an air unit that stretched from toe to heel, with mostly nothing but air under the wearer's foot. With a plastic cage to contain the unit, the 360 was sturdy and stable, yet really comfortable. We've had variations of full legnth Air units since then, but I just had to pay homage to the first. I just wish they would come back in Retro form so that today's generation can experience it.

3. Air Max 1 '86 (2023)

This is the one real sneakerheads have been waiting for. The myth and legend of the original Air Max 1 with the big bubble was finally brought to life after 37 years. Kudos to those at Nike who did the research, development, and other hard work towards making this pair a reality.  We love true-to-form OGs, and aesthetically, it doesn't get any more OG than this.

2. Air Max Light (originally released in 1989)

Between the iconic Air Max 1 and Air Max 90 silhouettes, we have the Air Max Light. Originally releasing in 1989, this transitional model in the Air Max line perfects what its predecessor sought out to do. A lighter shoe with soft foam in the forefoot and the trademark Air max bubble in the heel provided an extra level of comfort and sleekness that the 1 just doesn't have. I can't sing the praises of this model enough. Anyone would do well to add this one to the rotation.

1. Air Max Plus (originally dropped 1998)

This, to me, is the perfect Air Max shoe. Low profile forefoot Air units and Tuned Air chambers in the heel give this model the ultimate in floor feel, cushioning, and stability. This is the Jack of all Air Max trades, and does it all while looking pleasantly unique. It's the best of all time, in my humble opinion.

When the Nike Epic React dropped in early 2018, we quickly realized that when it came to running, the future was foam. After a couple of iterations, it was time for Nike to take React foam to a new level. Where would it go, though?  The foam had already proven to be incredibly comfortable, reliable, and decently durable despite its softness. Well, for 2020’s successor to the Epic react, Nike went thicker and wider to create what was dubbed The React Infinity Run. According to various sources, they added 25% more foam to the tooling, as well as widened the base of the shoe in order to provide more stability. Another addition to this model was substantially more rubber added to the outsole, which, in theory, would add more life to the shoe. Nike went on to test the shoes and claim that they reduced injuries by a substantial margin vs. their next best model designed for that purpose. With all of those points in mind, it was finally time for me to experience Nike’s next generation React foam model.

As soon as I put them on feet, I felt the difference. They were sturdier and more responsive than their predecessor. The stability factor wasn’t immediately discernible, but the wider forefoot base covered more ground, so each step felt steady with minimal shock. The heel portion protruded a bit too much off the back, which was great for the stride and heel strike, but not so great of one wasn’t careful going down narrower stairs. Aesthetically, I felt they looked better and were easier to wear than the Epic React. These Infinities quickly and permanently soon became my go-to pair for longer walks as well as other casual situations where I would be on my feet for an extended period of time.

All in all, for me, these are the perfect shoe for walking or casual running. It’s been three plus years since they’ve hit the scene, and a new generation of Nike foam running technology has come to try and supplant it. In spite of that, the Infinity React has proven that it’s still pound for pound the best. Overall it’s just right where it needs to be to help take us to the next level.

We had to wait until December 2021, but we finally got it...and it didn't disappoint.
After much demand and requests from consumers, Jordan Brand finally did the right thing and gave the public what they wanted: the sought-after Cool Grey Air Jordan 11.
They took their time and got this one right. High cut patent leather, creamy grey suede, and that tappable carbon fiber shank plate made this modern classic worth the wait. This pair is the epitome of versatility, style, and elegance.

Looking at a few photos of Jordan wearing these kicks during his Wizards tenure brought me to this thought: These Cool Greys can be considered a fitting metaphor for MJ's final few NBA seasons as a player. As his career started to wind down, the colors of red, white, and black faded into shades of grey. The greatness of the man was still present, but things were just different at that point. There weren't the same expectations of supremacy above all competitors, but there was this sense of urgency for witnesses to take all of the spectacle in, for they knew that its time was short.

These 11s are a testament to never forgetting what excites us, keeps us going, keeps us striving to be our best. Though, in time, we all may fade to grey, there's always opportunities to continue to build our personal legacies, just like number 23. 📚

The legendary New York Yankees shortstop and captain Derek Jeter has been an important member of team Jordan since 1999. The brand transcended its original sport of basketball by capitalizing on Jeter’s admirable persona and championship resume. Lots of great Jordan branded products based on Derek were created throughout the duration of his career and beyond, not least of which was this Air Jordan 1 High OG affectionately nicknamed “RE2PECT”. This shoe would arrive just in time for the holiday season, in November/December of 2017, a little over three years since Jeter played his last MLB game. Though Derek had moved on from his role as iconic baseball player, the theme of RE2PECT, made famous in the latter years of his career, still resonated like a ripple through time. The Air Jordan 1 High OG silhouette that was well on its path towards becoming the most popular retro model during this period, would be the perfect canvas on which to bring the story of Derek Jeter to the sneaker world at large.

Jeter was a star who shone the brightest in the biggest, most important moments when the flash bulbs were popping, so it was only right that this pair features reflective writing throughout the middle panels and mud guard portions of the upper. The words “DISCIPLINE”, “FEARLESS”, “FOCUS”, “LEAD”, and “PASSION” embossed on those sections are all values constituting important elements that were important to Derek’s success, both on and off the field. The last word, “RE2PECT”, encapsulates the ultimate regard that fans and foes alike have for the man, and his character. Finally, the black and white color scheme on this pair is apropos because that’s just how Derek’s great career accomplishments are listed in the record books for eternity. This pair of kicks will always serve as a reminder of the qualities that are key for success in many aspects of life. They also demonstrate that in each of our quests to be our best, we can also look sharp along the way, RE2PECTfully 😉.

P.S. I know it's been a while since I last dropped a post, but I just want to say thanks for 700 plus followers and always rocking with me. You all make this community great! 🙏🏾

As we enter another new year, we come up on the 30th anniversary of yet another Air Jordan flagship model. 2022 marks this milestone for the Air Jordan 7. The silhouette marked a departure from the similar visible air tooling of the 3 through 6 as a more quick, lightweight approach was taken. The 7 is an underrated performer after all these years, while still looking as sleek as a fighter jet. This particular "Playoff" (not Raptor) colorway is memorable due to being the pair in which Michael Jordan delivered the Chicago Bulls their second NBA championship. Game one of the 1992 NBA Finals stands out in that series because of MJs all time great performance. In what alluded to his future style of play, the normally average three point shooting MJ hit his first six threes on the way to netting a record 35 points in the first half of play. Shot after shot fell through the basket as MJ undoubtedly had the hot hand. All the GOAT could do was shrug, for he knew he could not be stopped. This game set the tone for the series and in a few more games the Bulls would be crowned Champs once again.
It's times like those that make greatness seem like a force of nature out of anyone's control. Call it luck, call it muscle memory, the confidence takes over and you just gotta go with it. So go ahead, take a shot, and another, and another. When you hit them and it's all said and done, don't forget to give 'em a shrug.
