What a week this was! Last week I completed the @uefa.academy Women In Football Leadership Programme. Learned so much in such a short space of time and met the most amazing and inspiring group of women along the way! 🤗

You heard him! 2 more days until we complete our challenge raising money for @epilepsysociety ! So proud of him and how he’s managed this! Watch until the end 💕🥰

For someone with epilepsy, fatigue, tiredness, dehydration, can all increase the chances of a seizure so it’s been super important we manage Jenson properly throughout this challenge. Especially in the heat! He’s not complained and he’s already given me the dates in July we will be out walking! ☀️

Thank you all for your support! The link to donate is in my bio if you have any spare change 🚶🏾‍♀️#epilepsy #epilepsyawareness #fundraiser by @fernwhelan

First Women’s Football Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Executive at the PFA

She had won her place before most of her teammates knew her name. By the time Fern Whelan walked out at Wembley for the 2015 FA Cup final, she had already captained her country, beaten Arsenal twice for silverware, and been judged the best young player in England. None of it had been handed to her.

The route ran through Liverpool, where she was born on 5 December 1988 and learned the game alongside the boys at school. Liverpool Feds came first, then Liverpool Ladies, and at 16 she crossed Merseyside to Everton. She stayed nearly a decade and made the club better for it. In 2008 Everton beat Arsenal for the FA Women’s Premier League Cup, and that same season the game’s selectors named her FA Young Player of the Year a defender, recognized among forwards and creators, on the strength of how she read a game.

Two years on she helped Everton take down Arsenal again, this time for the 2010 FA Women’s Cup. England saw what Everton had seen. She captained the under-19s to a European final and was named the tournament’s finest player. A senior cap followed.

Whelan understood early that a career is finite and that influence need not be. Trained as a physiotherapist, she stepped, on retiring in 2020, into a role no woman had held before her: the PFA’s first Women’s Football Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Executive. The work is plain and necessary player welfare, the fight against abuse and discrimination, a fairer game for the women who come next. She does it in full view, on Sky Sports and the BBC, the same way she played.

As a family we are raising money for the @epilepsysociety. We will be walking/running and Jenson biking 3 miles a day, everyday throughout June.

A charity that is close to our hearts as it has impacted our lives for 2 years now.

Scroll to see why and if you can spare any money to donate to this incredible cause we would really appreciate it.
