POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Today, in partnership with @fertileearth and @mdiamiami, Miami-Dade Solid Waste hosted a demonstration of our new composting pilot at the South Dade Landfill. ♻️🌱

The pilot is evaluating how organic materials (like your food scraps and yard debris) can be transformed into nutrient-rich compost using innovative composting technology. 🥬🍎

It’s expected to process approximately 100 tons of organic material every 10 weeks and will help us gather valuable real-world data to inform future composting and organics diversion efforts across Miami-Dade.

This is an exciting milestone as we continue advancing our Zero Waste goals and exploring ways to keep our landfills from filling up.

Most importantly, this initiative responds directly to what we’ve heard from YOU, our residents: a desire for more sustainable ways to manage food scraps and yard debris.

While this pilot is focused on testing and evaluation, it’s an important step toward understanding how composting could play a larger role in Miami-Dade’s future. 🙂‍↕️

Thank you to all of our county and community partners who came out for the demo today: @miamidadeenvironment, @communitynewspapers, @debrisfreeoceans, @ediblesofla, the office of @senrenegarciafl, and even a surprise visit from @mdctaxcollector, who stopped by to learn more about the pilot and its potential benefits for our community. 🙏

📢 Stay tuned as we expect to announce even more compost-centric news soon, including MetroSTOR smart food scrap collection containers coming soon!

COMPOSTING IS HERE. 🌱

Waste is not waste until you waste it.

This World Environment Day, we’re celebrating a major milestone as Miami-Dade Solid Waste takes an exciting step toward the future of composting.

🌱 LEARNING TO CARE FOR OUR PLANET! 🌎✨

This week, Unity School had the pleasure of hosting a hands-on sustainability workshop led by Priscilla Carolyn, Director of Special Projects at Fertile Earth!

Priscilla brought her passion for nature and years of experience in organic waste diversion, composting, and food waste reduction to our campus. Through fun, age-appropriate experiences, our students discovered where food comes from, how organic materials can be reused, and how small everyday actions make a big impact in caring for our planet!

Thank you to Priscilla and @fertileearth for inspiring our young learners to be great stewards of the environment! 💙🧡

Ending Food Waste Prevention Week on a high note with the awesome students at @gloriafloydes! 🍏♻️

From Share Tables to front-of-house and back-of-house composting, they are showing what’s possible when an entire community comes together to fight food waste.

A huge thank you to the @world_wildlife for their invaluable support in making these initiatives possible, and to @fertileearth for partnering with us to turn our cafeteria scraps into rich, healthy soil! 🪱🌿

These students are proving that big change starts right on our lunch trays. 💪✨

I got to connect with even more people who are interested in growing food in South Florida, and it just reminded me how many people are looking for community around this.

People who want to work with nature instead of against it. People who want to learn about agroforestry, grow more of their own food, and learn from each other along the way.

That’s what I want this South Florida growers community to be about.

So if you’re in South Florida and you want to be part of the WhatsApp, DM me GROW and I’ll get you in.

Ready to smash some pumpkins for a good cause? 🎃

Join us for our 2nd Annual Pumpkin Smash! We’ve partnered with Miami-Dade County Public Schools @mdcpsfoundation to keep thousands of pounds of pumpkins out of landfills.

Here’s how it works: Fertile Earth Farm collects your leftover pumpkins, cleans them up, and brings them back to our farm to kickstart the composting process. Together, we turn holiday waste into rich, beautiful nutrient-dense soil while teaching local students the power of composting from an early age! 🌱

Help us support the #ZeroWaste movement and give your pumpkin a second life. Sign up & register your school today at the link in our bio! 🔗
