Construction continues on my 18th Century gown for Versailles. Today, we are analyzing the lace detail. I’ve never made sleeves like this with stacked French lace and it’s been fun. #versaillespalace #versailles #costuming #18thcentury #mantua #fetesgalantes #frenchcourt #regal #frenchlace #sewing #historicalfashion #yolo #adventure #france #winterpark #winterparkfl taken in Winter Park, Florida by @feteminuet

The theme today for #fallforcostume26 is rain. If you look closely you will see the rain drops on my dress. This was moments before Fetes Galantes. #rain #versailles #october @sew_through_time taken in Winter Park, Florida by @feteminuet

Such an incredible day at the annual ACS renaissance faire. I am very sunburnt, famished and utterly exhausted but it was so much fun. Thank you to my amazing colleagues and all the acts for a fantastic October day. #medieval #renaissance #monkeys #tent u by @feteminuet

The theme today for #fallforcostume26 is architecture. If you remember the ladies from the Pink party at Chateau Vaux Le Vicomte in May…this is the four of us the following night at Petit Trianon. And just look at the architecture. This is the back side of The Grand Trianon. I love this photo so much. It really looks like it is straight out of a painting. Well golly gee, I am pretty darn excited about our renn faire on Friday. I know nothing about costuming in this time period so this is what I’m wearing. I’ve been so busy organizing the festival, which includes a mining experience,a twin monkey show, a martial artist lightsaber show, pony rides, archery, a blacksmith, and a vintage costume jewelry tent… I have not sewn a single thing (besides three massive pavilions). Well, I did buy the hat on Amazon and I sewed the fuschia scarf on. The rest are just pieces I have in the costume closet. The over dress is made by Museums Replica Limited. Tents still aren’t done but they are done enough to pitch. I love that our school invests in our students creatively. I try to be the teacher I would’ve wanted in high school. And I always teach of the compounding nature of investing time into something every day. Over time, you can become pretty darn good at something. You can accomplish anything if you break it up into small investments. 🥰 #renaissance #faire #princess #headpiece by @feteminuet

Today’s theme for #fallforcostume26 is WILD OUTDOORS. I love this photo standing at The Gates at The Grand Trianon. This was my favorite costumed event I have ever attended. It started at Petit Trianon. We wandered the gardens and buildings and ended up here at Grand Trianon for fireworks, dancing, food, and ice cream. It was like being invited to Marie Antoinette's house. I know guests felt like I did when I walked through these gates. So special. #petittrianon #france @sew_through_time taken in Le Grand Trianon, Château de Versailles by @feteminuet

Today’s theme for #fallforcostume26 is white. I love this photo of me getting ready in our Airbnb in Venice. I was about to attend my first 18th Century Ball ever!! I was so excited in this photo!!! All of my hard work sewing a court suit and a robe à la francaise was for thisssss moment!!! I did my own hair back then to make it look authentic. I was still a little insecure about my efforts. And It was before I took classes in England on historic wig styling. Thank God I did because it would wreck my hair and the day after each event I looked crazy. The shampoo in Europe is much less toxic than in The US and it couldn’t clean my hair after I dumped buckets of powder and hairspray and pomade in it. So It was a total mess until I got home to wash it!! I am so thankful to my wigs!! At the very least, I don’t look bad in the rest of my vacation photos after events. The Ball was hosted by a Venetian Family. I took notes about what worked and what didn’t. I was surprised that almost everyone rented their gowns for over 1000 Euros. There were some very drunk people and some people who were obviously using the event as a meat market. It was a fun place to observe everyone, which is also what made a Ball fun 250 years ago. lol The Airbnb was like a dream. All of the artwork in the flat, like the one hanging in front of me, depicted historical clothing. I wanted to recreate every painting of course. The flat, which was likely constructed in the 1600s, also had huge murano chandeliers, a massive grand dining room with multiple balconies that overlooked the Venetian canals. I wished in that moment that all of my friends and family were at that table laughing and playing cards, eating Italian bread and cheese and listening to beautiful music. Of course, in reality, that would never happen. My mother would be telling me how absolutely ridiculous I look in my costumes, people would be complaining, arguing about politics, and some jerk would announce how much he hated playing cards. But… as it was in my head… It was just one of the best moments of all time. Venice is magic. @sew_through_time #venice #carnevale #costuming taken in Venice, Italy by @feteminuet

Today’s theme for #fallforcostume26 is #highcontrast. I love the juxtaposition between my friend Alicia Lacy and I in this photo. I also love carousels and lights so much. Instant happiness. This costume was originally made to wear to Carnevale in Italy in 2020. I adore wearing it over and over. This event was a pop up for The Phantom of The Opera at a restaurant. It was so much fun. Today’s theme for #fallforcostume26 is monochromatic. I loved attending the pink party and this was one of my favorite photos. All of us were from different parts of the earth, brought together by the color pink. What a wonderful moment!! We ran into each other the next evening 37 miles away at Petit Trianon and none of us were wearing pink. We got a second photo of that moment, which I also love. #monochromatic #france #chateau #vauxlevicomte Hosted by @sew_through_time by @feteminuet
