There’s a restrictive school of thought in dance music that artists should stick to one particular sound or scene, lest they confuse promoters or potential fans about what to expect from their music and suffer career consequences. Japanese DJ and producer @fetus_music does not accept this way of thinking — constraints make him feel uneasy inside.

Fetus’ artistry is uninhibited and intense, tapping into his own experiences, emotions and the universality of music to convey meanings that can resonate with anyone. Born in Osaka and now based in Tokyo, a wildly prolific 2024 saw his next-level productions duly make waves and rewire minds across the world.

Following standout releases on the likes of @trekkietrax, @herrensauna.official and the @turingmachine09 label he co-founded with @oyubidesu he landed a spot in Mixmag’s top 25 producers who defined the year, and having just travelled to play abroad for the first time at @cakeshopseoul, more international attention looks assured. Fetus is more than an artist to watch — you can’t take your eye off him for a second with all the bangers he’s unleashing.

For his instalment of The Mix, Fetus delivers a dynamic set which represents the direction the project is heading, and for his first-ever interview speaks to @patrickhinton about his mood-based music-making that transcends physical limits and language, Tokyo’s club scene, and the emotional inspiration behind his artist name and debut album.

Fetus (@fetus_music) returns to TREKKIE TRAX with his new EP “boost EP,” out now.

Inspired by club experiences overseas and the connections made along the way, boost EP marks the beginning of a new chapter for Fetus. Built around his distinctive sound design and bouncing grooves, the EP moves between bass music, dancehall, Baltimore club, techno, and psychedelic influences while balancing DJ functionality with playful experimentation.

From the minimal dancehall groove of “Nothing But Deer” to the Baltimore club-inspired “Dub or Mirror Ball,” the psychedelic energy of “Untitled B,” and the 160 BPM drive of “Too Much Whistle,” the EP explores fresh directions without losing sight of the dancefloor.

CUSTOMS 很榮幸宣布，紐約藝術家 K Wata 回歸，同時迎來日本藝人 Fetus 的台灣首演！

K Wata 是一位常駐紐約的藝術家、DJ，同時也是實驗性電子廠牌 SLINK 的共同創辦人。SLINK 長期活躍於紐約地下舞曲場景，定期舉辦活動，致力於透過發行作品與派對推廣多元且風格獨特的音樂人。除了個人專輯獲得 Resident Advisor、DJ Mag 等媒體好評之外，他也曾與 Yaeji、Relaxer 等多位藝術家合作與製作。他同時是企劃「E Wata」的一員，並擔任上海的Heim 與紐約的The Lot Radio 的常駐 DJ。

Fetus 是近年備受矚目的新生代 DJ 與製作人，以能自在穿梭多種風格、同時保有鮮明個人風格而聞名。常駐東京的他，已獲得 Ben UFO、SHERELLE、Noisia、Amor Satyr 等國際 DJ 的支持。Fetus 主要隸屬於 Trekkie Trax 廠牌，也曾在 Herrensauna、Wajang 等廠牌發行作品。他與同樣備受看好的 Oyubi 共同經營派對／廠牌系統「Turing」，在其中自由探索電子音樂的各種可能性。

這次兩位才華洋溢、同時也是彼此樂迷的藝術家同台演出，我們期待打造一個完全自由的聲音場域，讓 Fetus 與 K Wata 盡情拓展聲響邊界。

此外，CUSTOMS 也很開心邀請到風格鮮明的 Karin Nowhere，以及 Hojo 與 Jun 的 b2b 演出，共同為這個夜晚劃下精彩句點。
