FARRELL MASON-BROWN
Seashell by the Shore
35 x 32 inches

Farrell Mason Brown is a painter based in Brooklyn, NY. Drawing on her background in dance and nursing, her work explores themes of poetry, vitality, and mortality. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from MGH Institute of Health Professions and an MFA in painting from Pratt Institute. She served as Visiting Artist Lecture Series Coordinator at Pratt Institute and was awarded the Graduate Student Engagement Fellowship and the Seeman Burse Fund Scholarship. Her artwork has been exhibited at Deanna Evans Projects (Manhattan, NY), Tiger Strikes Asteroid (Brooklyn, NY), and Eve Leibe Gallery (London, UK), among others. Her paintings have been featured in Art Maze Magazine and New Visionary Magazine.

Excerpt of Artist Statement:
I create paintings that bridge landscape and abstraction. My process is grounded in the use of self-made tools, such as a repurposed kitty litter scooper and found objects I use to print directly on the canvas. This approach allows me to lose full control because of the unpredictable marks that these objects create. Often these tools create aesthetic challenges that I then respond to in multiple layers of addition and subtraction of paint and pigment. Through this process, I sometimes discover images of landscapes and cityscapes. When I paint landscapes, I take a zoomed out, or heightened, perspective that emphasizes the awe-inspiring beauty of the earth and the cycles of life and death. by @ffawo
