Went to @kid_soho - my brother’s new joint venture.
No kidding, it’s a masterpiece.
I feel unbelievably proud. To see him thrive, grow, express all of his culinary skill and angst and craft and delicacy in one space. A full expression of our heritage. It fills my heart 🧡
Shoutout to all the ex-Mangal II alumni working there now, too. @earlboy_ @jordanallen_b8 & Jess & @nicoladarcyy You’re all fucking killing it.

Big love to @david.carter.uk for being the hardest-working and smartest-working person in hospitality, and for being an all-round good guy.

Yossarian turns 1 today.
It’s been… a journey. As a parent, I thought “raise a puppy? easy lads.” Boy, was I in for a shock. This cute little devil entered my life and then I got hit with Covid the same week, bed-bound. Puppy howling. Me thinking “what the hell have I got myself into?”
I got a puppy trainer, the dude was a druggy mess. It was a disaster. Yos pooped everywhere. He’d try and gently bite the kids on occasion. I was the worst dog-owner of all time.
I still loved him. If Yos had to change, that had to start with me. Do better, be better. Don’t just dismiss all his bad behaviour with “well, he’s a dog.”
I never got people who made having a dog their whole personality. But there had to be a middle ground.
Slowly, day-by-day, he’s better. He’s calmer. He poops and pees outside. He runs back to me when I call his name. Most of all, he seems to really love me, the kids, and all my family whenever I bring him round. He’s loyal. He’s unbelievably stupid. He really makes me laugh. And I love him. Trust me to have a ridiculous dog, one that obviously resembles me. A wild freak, but with his heart in the right place. He’s literally named after a fictitious fighter pilot. Hold his lead and feel the sheer force of him bolting and realise it all makes sense.
Yos has taught me to be a better person. To care more. To give more of myself. And most of all, he’s been a great pal. I love you Yossarian, you menace x by @ffferhatdirik

Tuesday 16th of June brings the seismic collision of Whyte’s x Mangal II.

A collaborative dinner merging all the eclectic flair and mind-rearranging flavour combinations of the globetrotting greats @whyte_rushen and @liviakers pairing up with industry cult-icons @mangal2restaurant and all their revered fire-blessed glory of 32 years.

Years of mutual admiration and friendship brings forth this union at 4 Stoke Newington Road.

Some pop-ups don’t need any further explanation: They simply make sense. Using the tools of the Ocakbaşı and an adventurous play on Turkish classics, this one-off evening will tilt the scales of what it means to be hit with a smoke-enhanced menu. With cocktail pairings from our guys over at @moatwoodgin

Sweetbreads on the grill; Mussels stuffed tempura courgette flowers; Künefe + cardamom Turkish coffee tiramisu, the dream collab is about to be realised.

The best part? Representing the elastic range of Dalston’s culinary vision under one roof, one event.

Met the legend @marcopierrewhit here at @mangal2restaurant today. What a dude, we talked food, Arsenal & about Persia, where my family originally hail from. He even bought our book and got me to sign it. Surreal.
And best of all, he tried our dishes and seemed to genuinely love it.
He may have 3 Michelin stars, but he gets a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me. taken in Mangal II by @ffferhatdirik
