In my thesis, I aim to explore the origins of the fetish and its radical influence on the perception of women of color, focusing through the lens of my experience growing up in the United States as a Mexican woman. In understanding the origins, I dive into examples from literature, religion, and art. In each medium, the existence of the fetish has been perpetuated and memorialized.

The collection is divided into four sections:
The Fetish, The Grotesque, The Divine, and The Resilient. These sections move through the gross fetishization of women and their demonization, juxtaposing with divinity and thus highlighting the resilience and power of Mexican women, reclaiming symbols often used to subjugate us.
