🌟Student Spotlight: Kira Parker!🌟🔬

This summer, Kira completed an internship with the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance as a Conservation Science Fellow! As part of the Conservation Genetics team, she worked on optimizing biobanking protocols for endangered Hawaiian bird species — helping make these important conservation tools more cost-effective and accessible to communities with limited resources.

Through this experience, Kira gained valuable skills in cell culture, laboratory techniques, and data analysis while further shaping the path she hopes to pursue in her future career. 🧬

Her advice to fellow students?
"If you weren’t meant to be there, you wouldn’t be there.”

We’re so proud of Kira and all she accomplished this summer! 🦅

I got hired through the WCE Career Expo — here's my story.

Meet Lilah, an environmental engineering major who walked into the Career Expo not knowing it would change everything.

One connection led to an opportunity that she loves. 💚

Your next step could start with a single conversation too. See you at the next WCE Career Expo! 🦅

🌟 Student Spotlight: Mia De Biasi 🌟

Meet Mia De Biasi, a Civil Engineering major expected to graduate in 2028, who is gaining valuable hands-on experience through an internship with Hennessey Engineers.

Mia secured her internship through a connection with a family friend and quickly recognized the opportunity as a chance to learn from experienced professionals in the field. After interviewing with Hennessey Engineers, she was offered a position as a Construction Technician Intern for Summer 2026.

In her role, Mia works alongside the survey team to stake property boundaries, create topographical maps, lead sanitary sewer smoke testing, and inspect road reconstruction projects. These experiences have provided her with insight into the many moving parts of civil engineering projects and have brought her one step closer to her career goal of overseeing construction projects from start to finish.

Mia encourages fellow students to seek out experiential learning opportunities whenever possible. "Try your best to get an internship because gaining hands-on experience is invaluable! Don't be afraid to ask questions or make a mistake in the field—that's how you'll learn. Become as involved as you can and try to make connections with coworkers!"

We're proud to see Mia applying her classroom knowledge in the field and building a strong foundation for a successful career in civil engineering. Keep up the great work, Mia! 🚧💙 by @fgcu_engineering
