Days at Morisaki Bookshop

Stepping into Jimbocho, the book town in Tokyo has transform me again into the book which sets in this every booklover’s heaven. Rows of bookshop with spillage of books into the front door and corners makes my heart so happy. Most of the books are in Japanese but I’m just happy to stroll in the nice autumn weather. Went into some bookstores with cat theme or sell cat books. They are so cute and I left the shop not empty handed.

Days at the Morisaki Bookshop is a story of a woman that faced some stumbles and at down side the wheel of life. Finding out that she is the third person in the love relationship and decided to quit her job. Not long after, her uncle contacted her and offered her a job as caretaker in his bookshop.

This book is the painting of real life, challenges, heartbreaks, family’s love and determination to carry on life regardless of what lemon has been throw to you or in this case, books 😂 I love that the book also tells the side story of his uncle and aunty plus friends she made along the way.

Livia and Erik’s story was never meant to be an easy one. A princess and the ruthless King of the Ever, their relationship began with secrets, betrayal and a marriage neither could simply walk away from. Yet, somewhere along the way, what started as a dangerous arrangement turned into something neither was prepared for. But loving each other was one thing; fighting for that love in a world determined to keep them apart was another.

Separated by circumstances and the dangers surrounding them, Livia and Erik found themselves torn away from the one person they wanted most. With enemies lurking and kingdoms caught in the middle of their conflict, they had more than their own lives to worry about. Yet, no matter how far apart they were, neither was willing to give up on the other. Erik might be a ruthless king feared by many, but when it came to Livia, he was a man determined to find his way back to her. And Livia, despite everything thrown her way, was just as determined to fight for the man she loved.

As they struggled to overcome the obstacles standing between them, they had to navigate dangerous alliances, political schemes and the consequences of choices made long before their love began. Their separation only made one thing clearer, neither power nor a crown could replace what they had found in each other.

But with so much working against them, would their determination be enough to bring them back into each other’s arms? Or would the fate of the Ever Kingdom demand a sacrifice neither of them was prepared to make?

Boleh ke perasaan cinta sebenarnya datang daripada virus? 🦠 Kalau sesuatu dalam badan kita boleh mempengaruhi perasaan dan cara kita melihat seseorang, adakah cinta yang kita rasa tu masih boleh dianggap sebagai cinta yang sebenar? ❣️

Bagi saya, itu yang paling menarik tentang cerita ni. Kita selalu anggap cinta sebagai sesuatu yang datang daripada hati dan perasaan kita sendiri. Tapi bagaimana kalau perasaan itu sebenarnya dipengaruhi oleh sesuatu yang kita sendiri tak boleh kawal? Adakah perasaan tu jadi kurang bermakna?

Saya suka bagaimana cerita ni bermain dengan persoalan tersebut tanpa menjadikan romance sebagai sesuatu yang terlalu straightforward. Ada rasa curious, ada rasa pelik, dan pada masa yang sama sedikit sedih bila fikir tentang kemungkinan bahawa perasaan yang kita anggap milik kita sendiri mungkin sebenarnya bukan sepenuhnya milik kita.

Hubungan antara watak-watak dalam cerita ni pun buat saya banyak berfikir. Kalau cinta mereka bermula daripada sesuatu yang biologikal, adakah perasaan itu masih genuine? Atau mungkin cinta tetap cinta, tak kira bagaimana ia bermula?

Kalau korang suka romance yang ada unsur pelik, sedikit sains, misteri dan persoalan tentang apa sebenarnya maksud cinta, give this a try! Definitely bukan typical love story.

After years of being a corporate swordswoman, Isako is finally at the point where she thinks she can retire. Except apparently the universe said nope, not yet. Her longtime client is retiring and before she can really step away, Isako gets one last contract. One. Last. Contract.

Her mission? Investigate a rival and stop him from getting a seat on the corporate board. Sounds simple enough right? WRONG. Because obviously once Isako starts digging, things get messy real quick. There’s murder, corporate politics, betrayal and people she thought she knew suddenly becoming questionable.

What I really love about this book is Isako herself. She is not some young badass discovering her power for the first time. She is older, experienced, tired and very aware that her career is coming to an end. But watching her navigate this final mission while questioning her loyalty, purpose and what she actually wants for herself?? Yeah, I was invested.

Also the world building 👀 Corporate control is basically EVERYTHING here. Your value is tied to what you can contribute and retirement isn’t exactly the peaceful “finally I can rest” kind of retirement. The whole thing feels very dystopian and honestly a little too believable for comfort.

The pacing can be a little slow at times, especially with all the political and corporate maneuvering. There’s also a POV shift that took me a minute to get used to. But once everything started coming together, I was like okayyy I see what you’re doing.

Overall, this is such an interesting mix of sci-fi, samurai vibes, corporate politics and mystery. Isako’s character alone made this worth reading for me.

If you love morally complicated characters, political scheming, dystopian worlds and a badass older woman trying to figure out what comes next in her life, definitely give this one a try.

Faraengard has helped their neighbour Selencia facing the nasty attack of Kher’zenn. However, Selencia’s affair is in serious trouble. Food and shelter are scarce. Leina’s brother, best friend and beau were dead during the collection of mens to serve the mines in repayment for protection by the Faraengard. When the soldier which is the warrior came to get her other two brothers, she break loose and killed them which leads the altor or the warrior to hunt for her.

Ryot, the altor that send to capture her able to barter the safety of her 2 brothers in return for obedience and follow him back to the camp. With her incredible power and strength, she then has been identified as the 1st Selencian altor. Her journey was hard but so is the forbidden love.

I love the vivid fighting scenes describe in the book. I can see each strike and defence flashed before my eyes. The altor has their own faravar or dragon-ish mystical creature that bond with altor and goes to war with. Since Leina is the 1st female altor, her faravar is unique as her.

Going to another half of the book, more and more plot twist coming up with the power held by Leina, truth about the kingdom Salencia & Faraengard, the mens send to mines and Ryot. Next book? Yes!
