"I'm her mothership and my job is to open her roads."

Sophia Tupuola is a visual artist, advocate, and proud mama of her child Oshun, who she lovingly describes as a warrior and world-maker. Sophia's own practice as an artist is deeply informed by her lineage, culture, history, and advocacy.

#TheCultureKeepers uplifts the artists who make the Bay Area a place where our futures are inevitable and irresistible. Thank you, Sophia, for the radical love you bestow on our community and future generations.

#sunnydale #malosi means #strength with @fia415 @tracewilliams15 and the residents we had so much fun with!

It’s an honor to be in these cross cultural spaces, and work with those that live there to take pride and ownership in #sharedcultures.

Thx to @mercyhousing for the ongoing partnership towards building and rebuilding communities through art, connecting and dreaming together. taken in Sunnydale by @fia415

Today Kurt & I had the honor of hosting an APRI workshop for the Us4Us Youth Workforce ✨✨✨ @us4us.bayarea ⚡️⚡️⚡️ We talked story about our community, learned about systems through activity and even had a mini tour of sites along Innes where community stood in solidarity to enact change. Co-Facilitating today with Kurt gave me so much joy and so much pride! We still got It / missing my RYLA babies and our RYLA space taken in Bayview-Hunters Point, San Francisco by @fia415

“Like a lot of Samoan people, we do it beautifully. There is an art in the way that we exist naturally and that informs my eye for beauty.”

A first-generation Sāmoan-American visual artist, Sophia Tupuola's practice is rooted in her culture, her community, and the radical love she's passing on to the next generation of world-makers.

#TheCultureKeepers exists because artists like Sophia deserve to be supported and invested in the scale of their impact. Hear more from her at theculturekeepers.com (link in bio).
