🌾 The new edition of the Right to Food and Nutrition Watch is out today!

This edition asks a fundamental l question: Who has the power to shape the food systems that sustain us in a world in which the politics of war invade our territories from the seed to the plate?

From Gaza, Sudan, Lebanon, Mali, and beyond, the edition explores how food can be used as a weapon of war and domination — but also how communities are defending their land, livelihoods, knowledge, dignity, and power to shape their own food systems despite systemic violence.

Through conversations, testimonies, and reflections, this edition brings together voices confronting violence, displacement, hunger, and ecological destruction, while showing the power of solidarity, resistance, and collective action.

🌍 Food is a human right. Human dignity must come first.

In her first report to the UN General Assembly, the new UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, @unsr_food Sofía Monsalve Suárez, lays out a vision for confronting the structural injustices driving hunger and food insecurity worldwide.
(Link in linktree)

⚠️ At a time when starvation is increasingly used as a weapon of war, corporate power over food systems continues to grow, and women's essential care work remains undervalued, the report calls for a fundamental shift in priorities.

🌱 The way forward? Food sovereignty, agroecology, stronger territorial food systems, gender justice, corporate accountability and meaningful participation by the communities whose rights are at stake.

The report also warns of emerging threats from artificial intelligence and digital technologies, which risk deepening inequalities and concentrating control over food and agricultural knowledge.

✊ The message is clear: realizing the right to food requires transforming the structures that perpetuate hunger, rather than merely managing its consequences.

👉 Swipe through the carousel to explore six key messages from the report.

Dukung perjuangan korban PSN merebut keadilan!

🌾 Food can be a weapon.

But food can also be a means of resistance. ✊🏽

In times of war, occupation, and dispossession, food can be weaponized to control people, territories, and resources. Yet across the world, peasants, pastoralists, fishers, and Indigenous Peoples continue to resist and persist. 🌱

Through their seeds, tools, and ancestral knowledge, they do more than feed the world — they defend their territories, water sources, and food sovereignty; reclaim their power; and build pathways toward collective survival. 🌾💧✊🏽

This World Food Day, we stand with the people who feed the world and defend their right to food, food sovereignty, and control over their territories and food systems. 🌍❤️‍🔥

🌱 Mufida Kusumaningtyas of FIAN Indonesia brought the links between corporate-driven development, environmental destruction and the right to food into focus at the 12th session of the UN negotiations on Transnational Corporations and Human Rights.

✊🏽 Environmental justice means more than protecting nature. It means protecting people's land, livelihoods and food sovereignty.

In Indonesia, large-scale food and energy projects are transforming landscapes, threatening communities' access to land and water, and displacing traditional and local food systems. FIAN Indonesia's research in Central Kalimantan found that 19 local rice varieties were lost, while 237 families lost control over their food sources.

💔As Mufida stressed, these transformations also deepen gender inequalities, as women bear a disproportionate burden in securing food and sustaining their families.

📢 Mufida's message is clear: neither food production nor energy transition is just if it comes at the expense of people's rights.

⚖️ We need a strong binding treaty to prevent environmental harm, hold corporations accountable across borders, protect affected communities and guarantee access to justice and effective remedy.

🌍 People and the planet before corporate profit. Environmental justice is human rights justice. ✊🏽 by @fianindonesia

✊🏽 At the 12th session of the UN negotiations on TNCs and Human Rights, Rehema Bavuma of FIAN Uganda brought the Kaweri communities’ 25-year struggle for justice into focus.

⚖️ 25 years of waiting for justice. Who pays the price of corporate profit?

In Kaweri, Uganda, around 4,000 people were forcibly evicted from their land in 2001 to make way for a coffee plantation. While the land continues to generate profits, affected communities have spent decades fighting for justice. 81 family representatives died before receiving it. 💔

Speaking at a side event on Food Sovereignty as a Lever to End Corporate Impunity, Rehema reminded us that agricultural investment must never come at the expense of people's rights. She stated that:
- Food sovereignty means protecting people's land, livelihoods, and right to decide their future.
- We need a strong, legally binding treaty to end corporate impunity, ensure access to justice, and put human rights before profit.
- No more profits built on dispossession. No more justice delayed for generations. by @fianindonesia

✊💜 **No binding treaty without feminist justice!**

🌍 Corporate abuses don't affect everyone equally.

Women, girls, gender-diverse people and marginalised communities—particularly in the Global Majority—face disproportionate impacts from corporate activities and impunity.

⚖️ At the 12th session of UN negotiations on a Binding Treaty on Transnational Corporations and Human Rights, **Feminists for a Binding Treaty**, a network of more than 30 organisations, is demanding:

💜 A strong, legally binding and gender-responsive treaty.

✊ Recognition of the structural inequalities behind discrimination and marginalisation.

🌱 Stronger protections for communities, human rights and the environment.

📢 Transparent negotiations that prioritise the strongest human rights standards.

While some progress has been made, key feminist demands remain unanswered.

**A Treaty that protects people must address the inequalities that put them at risk!**
