CHAUFFEURED INTO DYSTOPIA: L2++ vs. L3 🚘🤖

L2++ and L3 can look almost identical from the car next to you.

Legally and technically, they’re very different.

L2++: the car may steer, brake, accelerate, change lanes, and handle increasingly complex driving tasks — but the human driver is still responsible for supervising it.

L3: under specific approved conditions, the automated driving system performs the driving task. The human can disengage from continuously supervising the road, but must be available to take over when the system requests it.

That sounds like a small upgrade.

It isn’t.

The biggest leap isn’t that the car suddenly learned another trick.

It’s that we crossed a line from:

“The car is helping you drive.”

to

“The car is driving.”

And eventually, the steering wheel starts looking less like a necessity…

and more like a backup plan.
