𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 on view for just one more week at @artmuseumuoft .ᐟ

this work is a collaborative installation with Meech Boakye @ghostyboi, taking on the form of weathered construction waste and embedding eroded brick, tile, and glass fragments collected on the Lake Ontario shoreline. The work was largely made up of discarded and weedy materials, including paper pulp bricks I made from foraged stalks of “invasive” Phragmites australis.

Meech and I began this work through conversations along the Spit and continued our collaboration over many many phone calls across provinces and states. It’s been fun to put this all together and share it with you. We invite you to sit, observe, and touch the paper pulp and soap objects displayed on the round table as they slowly change over the duration of this exhibition.

Thank you Chloe and Meech for bringing me into this project! An additional thank you to the Art Museum staff for your support and to my fabrication assistant Maddie Gnam @flower__hag

This work is a part of 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙣 curated by Chloe Gordon-Chow @chloegchow. This exhibition, running from May 7 to August 1, 2026, traces how our relationships to land, material, and community are sustained within disturbed ecologies and conditions of precarity.

Please join us on Friday, July 17th from 6pm to 8pm at the Plumb! ࿐໋

Facilitated by @flower__hag and @fibre_graft, SOWSEW invites you to an evening of sewing and working with “invasive” plant materials, specifically common reed (Phragmites australis), a weedy, migrant grass species found throughout Ontario.

With an emphasis on material exploration, experimentation, and play, we will be collectively working with phragmites stalks, making paper, and exploring stitching together pieces of phragmites and mulberry paper, using traditional patchwork (Jogakbo) techniques.

This workshop is open to all experience levels and is beginner friendly. Tickets are by donation and event registration link in bio. All ticket proceeds go to The People Stand with Gaza International Fundraiser.

photos taken during my brief time as an artist-in-residence with @washiplus at Kashiki Seishi, a washi paper mill located in Kochi, along the Niyodo river.

So grateful to Ayumi for hosting me and generously sharing about her practice and her family's work which has been ongoing for seven generations (!!) In my short time there, I got an introduction to kozo processing + washi preparation and learned about Kashiki Seishi's ongoing relationship with local farmers. So incredible to see how much labour, care, and generational knowledge, goes into these paper-making processes.

so lovely to meet and learn from so many wonderful folks during my short time in Kochi!!! A big thank you to Ayumi + Masumi, Elena, and Lucy for all your support and encouragement!!

Here is a little moment from our show, 𝘛𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘭 𝘔𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬, and the afterwards from our booklet, written by Chloe Gordon Chow:

“It’s a life practice to navigate how to sustain a material practice amidst systems of extraction and harm. There are tensions inherent to this work. It’s a spiral tunnelling deeper into the ground. How do we work with what we’ve got? And notice that there’s already so much here?”

✳️Thank you to all who have supported us, passed through the space, and came with helping hands ✳️

Tunnel Mound Comeback showcases work that stems from “invasive” plant species. Each artist addresses a form of relationship towards the plant material they work with.

We place quotation marks on the word “invasive” as a way for us to leave room to think about how this word informs our relationship to these plants, and the ways we use this word outside of a plant context.

Elena Kirby (Tkaronto), Masumi Rodriguez (Tiohtià:ke/Montréal) and Emi Takahashi (Tiohtià:ke/Montréal) create work surrounding the plant known as dog-strangling vine. In conversation with the show, artist Bhavika Sharma (Tkaronto) takes on the plumb bar using a weedy/migrant plant known as phragmites.
