Completed my submission for ‘requiem’ - a collaborative textile project initiated by #indiaflint to be exhibited at #fabrikartsandheritage in Loebethal, Sth Australia next year. Participants from around the world have been invited to embellish an undyed piece of cloth with with threads :: I have used a piece of opp shop sourced cream silk, & tiny glass seed beads, and have written some of the beautiful lyrics from a favourite musical composition titled appropriately “back to the sky” by Olafur Arnalds. Singer JFDR’s (Jofriour Akadotti) beautiful lyrics include “what do I do with the void in your shape - leaving me frailty” This delicate cloth embodies the gossamer thread (or breath) by which we cling to life. Exhibition dates : 12 Feb-4 April, 2027. #geelongartist#repurposedtextile #surfcoastartists by @fibremellen

Some final pinning, stitching, burning on my ‘piece’ for the international community of creatives who will submit a work to become a ‘collective’ artwork curated by India Flint & to be exhibited at ‘Reqiuem’ :: Fabrik Art Museum, Loebethal, SA next year. Am considering adding some words, handwriting them onto this opp shop ‘windfall’ of silk - just love repurposing materials!!!#fabrikartmuseum#lobethalwoollenmill#geelongartists#surfcoastartist #repurposedfabriccreations by @fibremellen

Just trying to resolve final stitches on my contribution to a call out from @prophet_of_bloom :: the amazing textile artist India Flint - as a participant in her international community stitching project ‘requiem’. A composite cloth, made from individual pieces sewn by creatives around the world, will be displayed as part of the exhibition “beloved” at Fabrik Arts + Heritage, in Loebethal, Sth Aust, during the Adelaide Fringe in 2027.
 Adhering to my usual muse ‘leaves’ and using materials I have sourced from opp shops - including the beautiful piece of cream silk which is the basis of my creation. . . I’ve stitched, beaded, burned the fabric. I cut up a gorgeous tulle party frock to utilise the dots of embroidery to represent stars.

Exhibition dates :: 12 February – 4 April, 2027.
It’s been a joyous project for me whilst on my ‘overwintering’ roadtrip to Qld with my Dahl❣️#repurposedfabrics #slowstitchingwithsewsalvaged #slowstitchedpanels#geelongtextileartist#surfcoastartist by @fibremellen

Currently showing @genu_art_gallery : the annual Shirt[y] Tales [Tails] exhibition until 6 Aug - Mon/Fri 10-3.
My opp shop sourced printed tee shirt has been stitched, melted, embellished to create my artwork titled ‘I (Once) Love (d) A Sunburnt Country : yes, Dorothea McKellar’s poem : to explore the theme of Consumption.
Consumption . . . consuming . . . all consuming passion. We are overly ‘consumptive’ and the impact of our
‘consuming passions’ is evident in the detrimental impact our choices have on our natural environment. My ‘burnt’
landscape conveys the transformative effect our collective desires, needs, possessiveness, pursuits - our collective consumption - has a huge impact on what was once our much loved country. Our delicate, natural environment is forever transformed by the impact of our ‘consumption’. #repurposedtextile #geelongartists #surfcoastartist by @fibremellen
