Las cosas en las que uno cree se hacen, aunque estemos equivocados, mientras creamos hacer lo correcto, mas triste es quedarse con las ideas en la cabeza toda la vida.

“No Pierdo la Fè” / “I Don’t Lose Faith” by Fichu🕯️

“This work responds to an environment that squeezes, pushes, and diminishes possibilities. It is not a sick body, but a body produced by scarcity. Economic, emotional, and material precarity translates into a tense anatomy. I seek to suggest that even in precarity, the body retains a minimum strength that allows it to remain standing. For me, painting like this is refusing to beautify poverty, but also to erase it.” — Fichu, @fichustreetart

This portrait is by Fichu (Dennys Arroyo), a graffiti and mural artist from Old Havana. In his own words: “The white-eyed mulattos that inhabit my walls are not ghosts: they are the hidden faces of a society that has not been able to look at itself in the mirror.”

Fichu paints from urgency and memory — visceral, suburban aesthetics that carry the gestures, tensions, and scars of the popular Cuban neighborhood. His work isn’t decoration, it’s testimony. On an island where street art is still lived with fear, he treats the wall as a manifesto: “I don’t paint to please. I paint so they don’t forget.”

This piece now lives on our walls in San Francisco — come sit with it, drink in hand. 🥃
