Me, Myself and My Body” By Fidelis Izekor

Me, Myself and My Body is a series of digital portraits taken by myself in an exploration of the black male body. What I have come to understand about the black male body is a consistent and clear exploitation both in and out of media. I wanted to create something that showcased the sensuality and sexuality of black males without the coerced sense of promiscuity and discursive masculinity, often expected from the black males. I wanted to show the black male body as art; demonstrating it’s capability to maintain it’s softness and beauty while having the freedom to retain sex appeal. taken in New York, New York by @fidelis_100

Light to Shadow, Shadow to light ends with “The Dance”.
The dance is a mark of the journey with self and its shadow. It is a collaboration between the mind, body and soul; working together to spark friction, move emotion, and take up space.

In 2023 O’Shae Sibley was fatally stabbed at a Midwood, Brooklyn, gas station while voguing. For me, the murder of O’shae was an eye opening moment. I understood then that my existence is radical; that my joy is intimidating and to love was an act or resistance. That’s when I decided to do this painting. To Dance is a powerful thing and I shall continue mine.
