The first Field Dispatch has officially made its way into the wild. ◦˚𖦹⋆

Issue №1 began with a question: what is actually living on my balcony?

Turns out, quite a lot.

A glorious old wisteria. Spiders tucked between leaves. Ladybirds, bees, tiny birds, midges, a woodlouse or two. One cat keeping watch. And me, increasingly distracted by all of it.

Somewhere between looking, documenting and making, it became My Balcony Ecosystem — field notes, a cyanotype made with the wisteria itself, and a little prompt to go looking at the wild things living around you too.

20 envelopes later, I’m onto the next one. 。𖦹°‧

September’s Field Dispatch is now open for subscriptions.
€15, including postage wherever you are.

A little look inside Field Dispatch №1: My Balcony Ecosystem.

I can’t quite believe 15 of you have already signed up to receive these little envelopes in the post. The very first dispatches are heading out into the world this week (!!)

This month’s issue grew out of a summer spent looking closely at the tiny ecosystem around my Amsterdam balcony.

Inside: field notes + a taxonomy of the species I spotted, a cyanotype artwork made using wisteria from the balcony, an awe prompt card, and a wisteria Polaroid sticker.

And I’m already working on №2.

Back from being off grid and faced with my first ever delivery hiccup. One element hasn’t met my expectations, and I’m not comfortable sending it out just yet. So month two of Field Dispatch will be a few days delayed.

This month’s theme is Water & Light, noticing what happens above and below the surface as the seasons shift. ◦˚𖦹⋆

Despite spending most of the month off grid at a permaculture design course, with very little social media presence, six new subscribers have joined this little mail club 🫶🏾

In the spirit of small, slow steps and giving myself a little grace, I’m extending September orders until this Friday.

So if you’re after a little more awe and wonder, and a way to connect with nature and each other offline, September’s final snail mail spots are still open. #aweseeking #theartofnoticing #smallwonders #plantmagic #naturelovers taken in Amsterdam, Netherlands by @fielddispatch

What you can’t see below the surface…

Giant water lilies are actually fierce competitors for space and light. As their enormous leaves unfurl across the water, they push neighbouring plants aside and block the light below.

And underneath those beautiful floating leaves? A network of ribs covered in sharp spines.

I do love the sentiment, “a flower does not compete with the flower next to it”.

The giant water lily, however, did not get the memo.

The first Field Dispatch is finally becoming a real, physical thing. 。𖦹°‧

A cyanotype made from the plants of my balcony ecosystem, alongside field notes from the tiny world living amongst them. Oh, and a harlequin ladybird (𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘢 𝘢𝘹𝘺𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘴 f. 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘴)

For people who still stop to look.

Field Dispatch is my snail mail club—a monthly invitation to slow down, look closer, and reconnect with the natural world.

Slow mail. Nature notes. Hand-made prints. Small moments worth noticing.

Issue 01 grew from summer spent on my balcony in Amsterdam, paying attention to the rhythms of the season and the quiet moments that so easily pass us by. Long evenings. Open windows. Great tits flitting through the trees. My cat keeping watch. The light changing across the water. Plants pushing through cracks in the pavement. The quiet magic that’s always there if we stop to notice.

Every month, you’ll receive a small collection of reflections, printed pieces, and gentle invitations to accompany you outdoors.

I’d love for you to join us.
